Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku’s father ARRESTED for murder

Among the suspects charged for the murder of Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku’s mother and grandmother is reportedly her father.

ZiMoja reports that the actress and SuperSport presenter’s father, William Manku – who is a police captain – appeared before the Lebowakgomo Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 10 January.

Manku’s mother and grandmother were killed in May 2021. According to the Limpopo Chronicle, David Khoza – a 40-year-old Mozambican National suspect – was arrested on Monday 8 January in Lebombo Port of Entry (POE) in Mpumalanga. He was attempting to cross over to Mozambique.

The sportscaster’father, who is 53, was arrested while at work at Sandringham police station, Gauteng. In addition, his 42-year-old girlfriend Nonhlanhla Ngubo, who is a police sergeant at the Linden Police Station, was arrested in Lenasia South on Tuesday.

Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba said the motive of the incident at this stage is unknown and police investigations are underway.

The suspects have been remanded in police custody and the matter was postponed to Thursday, 18 January 2024, for bail application and further police investigations.

On Friday, Manku released a statement on behalf of her family.

“On January 10th, 2024, three suspects appeared in the Lebowakgomo Magistrates court in connection with the Murder of two women, Aged 70 and 45. The mother and daughter were shot and killed by unknown men on 04 May 2021 at Makgophong village, Zebediela.”

The Manku family said they will, in due course, address media requests through a statement.

“This is a difficult time for the family, but we are trusting the SAPS and Judicial system to run its course as is necessary to bring the matter to a close.

“We wish to thank the public for their support during this time.”

The father of popular Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku, known for her role as Lizzy Thobakgale, will continue to be detained after being charged with the murder of her mother and grandmother. The accused, identified as William Manku (53), a police captain, his girlfriend Nonhlanhla Ngubo (42), also a police officer, and a suspected hitman David Khoza (40), were apprehended on Monday in separate locations in Mpumalanga and Gauteng. Khoza was arrested at the Lebombo Port of Entry while attempting to flee the country. The breakthrough in the case came nearly three years after the tragic incident occurred in May 2021. The suspects made their appearance before the Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Limpopo police spokesperson Hlulani Mashaba confirmed the charges against the suspects, stating, “Three suspects arrested in connection with two counts of murder that took place at Makgophong village, under the Magatle policing area on 4th May 2021, appeared before Lebowakgomo Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday. The suspects are facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, robbery with aggravated circumstances, attempted murder, two counts of murder, and defeating the ends of justice.” The arrest was made possible by the collaborative efforts of the Limpopo Murder and Robbery Unit, Provincial Tracking Team, and Benoni Flying Squad.

The tragic shooting occurred when the 70-year-old grandmother and her 45-year-old daughter were fatally shot by unidentified assailants while collecting water from a local tap. Amanda Manku’s grandmother’s son was also present during the incident and sustained injuries but survived. Following the murders, the police initiated an investigation that ultimately led to the identification of the suspects and subsequent arrests. The firearms confiscated during the apprehensions will undergo ballistic testing, and the authorities have also seized the vehicle used in the commission of the crimes, as well as a phone belonging to Amanda’s late mother.

The community remains shocked by the heinous crime, and the court proceedings will be closely monitored as justice is sought for the victims.

The Malwedle hitmaker recently parted ways with his second wife Leon. According to reports he apparently kicked her out of his house in Limpopo. According to a local publication’s sources, Leon was very controlling and she always criticized him for coming home late.

“She didn’t understand that by virtue of being a celebrity, Monada is a people’s person and sometimes or always will return home late at night because he has to make money. But she will nag him for that,” said a source who did not want to be named. Leon reportedly also ill-treated his family, particularly Monada’s mother.

“He then told her to go back to her parents’ home to be properly disciplined as she lacked respect. She left but returned to Monada’s house later in a bakkie and took her stuff and drove off.”

Skeem Saam actress Amanda Manku was supposed to celebrate her 30th birthday this past Friday, 9 August 2021, and decided not to make a big Hoo-ha about it. Now more recently, Amanda decided to take to social media to explain to her fans why she kept quiet on her special day.

“This was meant to be posted yesterday, but because I was too excited to finally be out the house, I didn’t post.” She said.

The actress also revealed that her mother was 15-years-old when she gave birth to her. Her grandmother named her Dimakatso because no one knew that her mother was pregnant so her birth was a surprise. “Sooooo 30 years ago, Friday 9th August. My mother was 15 years old at the time, gave birth to a bouncing baby girl, Me! My grandmother named me Dimakatšo (Surprise) because obviously, no one knew that 15-year-old Gladys was expecting.”

Sadly, the Skeem Saam actress is spending her birthday without her mother and grandmother who passed away this year. “Anyway fast forward to 2021, bittersweet moments, as I celebrate the first birthday without my mother and grandmother.”

Because two of the most important women in her life are no longer with her, she saw no reason to celebrate. Also, she and her siblings tested positive for Covid-19. They all had different symptoms. She could not breathe and her feet had swelled.

“I didn’t want to celebrate my birthday this year. “There’s nothing worth celebrating”… However, 2/3 weeks before my birthday, my siblings and I tested positive for Covid-19, we all had different symptoms and some had it easier than others… Almost 30-years-old me had it hard. Was really struggling, so when I finally became covid free and could leave the house but most importantly could breath, walk around without holding onto anything and my feet weren’t swelling anymore… I realized the importance of celebrating life.”Back in May 2021, Amanda revealed that she had lost both her mother and grandmother. The star, who hardly posts about her private life online decided to share her heartache on Twitter as she had no one she could open up to.
