Somizi offers Minister Tito Mboweni cooking lessons
One of the more interesting highlights of 2020 has been Tito Mboweni’s cooking, which he broadcasts regularly on social media. The minister of finance seems to enjoy making himself a hearty, home-cooked meal and doesn’t buy into the notion that “men need women to cook for them” – he does it all on his own. The only problem is, however, he doesn’t seem to be very good at it. After seeing Tito Mboweni’s meals trend for all the wrong reasons, Somizi Mhlongo decided to step in and help the troubled minister improve his cooking.
I don’t think that this is turning out according to Plan! pic.twitter.com/NPGSK3nvIg

Somizi Mhlongo might have admitted in his new book that he is not a chef, but the SA Idols judge can safely say he knows his way around the kitchen – something we can’t quite say about Tito Mboweni. The minister’s meals almost always look as if they have been badly prepared, with ingredients chopped poorly, meat unevenly cooked and an abundance of his signature ingredient: garlic. Not only does the food itself not look appetising, but many fear it may be hazardous to his health! His latest chicken dish had many of us raising the alarm bells:
Is this approved? Progress? I think so. After a long day of hard work, I should settle for this. Right? pic.twitter.com/XtgKW5RFp6

We could only sit and watch for so long before somebody intervened and in the end it was the host of Dinner with Somizi who decided to lend the minister a helping hand. After witnessing the catastrophe above,
Somizi wrote to his Twitter audience, “South Africa im on a mission . I call it FINDING TITO…. because wow the last dish he posted needs my intervention….”
Needless to say, the Twitter masses agreed with Somizi’s initiative: We could only sit and watch for so long before somebody intervened and in the end it was the host of Dinner with Somizi who decided to lend the minister a helping hand. After witnessing the catastrophe above, Somizi wrote to his Twitter audience, “South Africa im on a mission . I call it FINDING TITO…. because wow the last dish he posted needs my intervention….”
Somizi is not the first celebrity to express his concern at the quality of Tito Mboweni’s cooking. In fact, dozens of South Africans have tried to call the minister to order in recent months but he doesn’t seem to agree with the public sentiment around his food. In fact, the minister has gone as far as announcing that he will be cooking at the launch of a restaurant in Polokwane soon. He wrote, “Well, I will be cooking at the opening occasion of this restaurant in Polokwane. Come taste my food. You doubting Thomases! You won’t regret it!! Lots of garlic too”
We’re not sure if we should be worried or excited, because the meals that we’ve seen the minister cook have not been at all flattering. Do you remember some of these?
