Simphiwe Ngema bags role on SABC2 ‘Bone of my Bones’

Former Isidingo actress Simphiwe Ngema has been cast in the second season of SABC2 Bone of my Bones.

Just a few months after saying goodbye to her Isidingo role as Phindi, Ngema has now moved on.

Speaking to Sunday World, she said that she would be playing the role of Ruth on the popular series.

“She [Ruth] is a sweet girl who is hardworking but is not a pushover. She’s been through a lot in life but has never let anything get her down,” Ngema explained.

“I don’t think there were any challenges, for me, taking on a new character is like going on a new adventure. You do your research, discover new things about the character when you read the script and think of ways of how to best portray the character and make the story believable.”

Ngema will be playing alongside her former Isidingo colleague Motlatsi Mafatshe in this drama which is scheduled to air on Thursday.

She said that late last year she had gone for the audition and was called immediately after.

“I went to audition at Sothar pictures a while ago and I forgot about the audition. They called me in December and told me that we will start shooting soon,” said Ngema.

When asked if this role was in the pipeline when she found out about the discontinuation of Isidingo, she said: “Not at all. My plans after finding out about Isidingo were to concentrate on my other work, you hardly have time to do other things when you are shooting a soapie and I’ve been putting a lot of things on hold because I just didn’t have the time.”

Among the things she said she did not have the time for while shooting for the canned SABC3 soapie was trying to acquire a home.

Ngema is the young widow of slain actor Dumi Masilela. On her social media pages she revealed that she recently bought her first home since the death of her husband.

“Lerato Mtolo [co-founder of ladies night] and I have events called Ladies Night and we speak about challenges that affect young widows, divorcees and single women. I discovered that a lot of young women go through a lot but are afraid to share their stories because of the fear of being judged.

“I shared my story to inspire other young women that have gone through what I’ve been through and to let them know that they too can make it.”
