Shock as Somizi rejects R1 million gift

Mzansi media personality Somizi Mhlongo revealed that Bathu founder Theo Baloyi gifted him a R1 million in cash on the latest episode of his reality series which aired on Wednesday 29 June.

Somizi revealed that Bathu sneakers only sold about 1000 pairs before he posted on his Instagram and then sales were booming. So, the founder of the sneaker brand, Theo Baloyi gifted Somizi R1 million in cash, but Somizi rejected.

“He (Theo) gave me a pair of shoes and wanted me to wear it and post it. I said ‘no I’m not going to post it’. I hate when people tell me to post,” he said.

“So I took the pair of shoes didn’t wear it for like three months. Then wore it, Theo used to probably like sell 1000 sneakers or 500 sneakers per month, if that. I (posted) since then… sales,” he continued.
“I go to Theo’s office, Theo says ‘I want to thank you, you’ve made my brand big’ …Theo gives me R1 million cash. I say to Theo, no it doesn’t feel right, I reject… I haven’t worked for this money its yours,” he said.

On a previous episode of Living the Dream with Somizi – the media personality joked about borrowing R5 million from MaMkhize’s son Andile Mpisane. He told MaMkhize to give Andile his “allowance” and he will borrow it from Andile.

Somizi: “Are they not expensive?”

MaMkhize: “No my friend, you’re working right?”

Somizi: “My friend will pay it for me. Just pay a million.”

MaMkhize: “Just a small million. One million? You mean Andile’s allowance?”

Somizi: “If Andile could ask you for R5 million, then tell him to give me some because your people are expensive.”
