Sad news for viewers – Uzalo production stopped

For the first time in the history of mankind, the world has been put to a standstill, the coronavirus has affected the whole world, all countries have been placed in the same bracket, both developing and developed.

Apart from putting every country on hold, the virus have also affected many festivals, live performances by artists, among other things.

TV productions have not been spared either and one such TV Production house that has been affected is Stained Glass Productions owned by Jacob Zuma’s daughter Gugu Zuma- Ncube.

The production house is the one which produces Uzalo which is screened on the South African Broadcasting Corporation 1 (SABC1). The other production under the same stable is Ehostela which is beamed on Mzansi Magic.

As for the later, viewers are going to miss the show, as just like any other productions they have to observe the national lockdown. Be that as it may, Uzalo has notified viewers that it is expecting to restart production on the 20th of April.

The show spokesperson, Nomfundo Zondi said the production team would be away until that date.

“As part of the direct response to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement, Uzalo production had been officially halted from 26 March at 2pm,” she said in a statement.

According to her, the suspension will not affect the viewers as they will continue to watch the show which is pre-recorded. The only thing is that it will put a lot of pressure on the production team as it has to stay ahead.

“This show will remain on air and it is not interrupted by the lockdown. However, the lockdown does put production under post lockdown pressure to deliver more episodes per week until we catch up with our delivery schedule,” she said.

To the contrary, Ehostela has been totally affected and it won’t feature until after the lockdown. It was supposed to start on Sunday, however, that is not going to happen.

This because the show had not finished shooting by the time the lockdown was announced. The producers said in place, they will slot in repeat shows such as Trackers and Lockdown.
