Reason why Idols SA contestant Ithana dropped out

Idols SA began on a sad note on Sunday, 19 September, as Top 10 contestant Ithana had to drop out of the show.

She apparently made the decision because of medical reasons.

The contestant, who is also Miss Soweto 2020 first princess, did not take part on Sunday’s show.

M-Net released a statement about her departure and wished her a speedy recovery.

Local channels entertainment director, Nomsa Philiso said: “As M-Net, we wish her a speedy recovery. It’s unfortunate that she can’t continue in the competition, but her health is of paramount importance. I know this would not be the last time South Africans see her on their screens.”

However, the episode was filled with upbeat performances as top Mzansi DJs and producers stepped in to help the Top 9.

Prince Kaybee, DJ Cleo, DJ Sumbody, De Mthuda and Sun-EL Musician were part of the show, and it was the battle of the DJs as contestants sang along to their songs.

Fortunately, no eliminations took place on this round. The contestants just sang their hearts out, even though one of the judges, Randall Abrahams wasn’t happy about most of the performances.

He said Bulelani, Daylin Sass and Monique seemed like they were performing in a school concert, while he said others like S’22Kile and Berry over did it.

But fellow judge Unathi Nkayi did not agree with him on some of the performers, saying Bulelani’s collaboration with DJ Sumbody was a great start for a challenging theme.

Monique also impressed Unathi with her performance of Prince Kaybee’s Charlotte.

Unathi said she loved how dynamic the performance was. Nqobie sang Sun-El Musician’s Akanamali and Randall commended her. However, Unathi wasn’t happy.

Siya Mzizi, sang Emlanjeni, accompanied by De Mthuda, while Karabo closed off the show on a high note with DJ Cleo’s Gcina Impilo Yami, both impressing the judges.
