At this time of the year, pupils get awarded for their hard work and Musa Mseleku is beaming with pride as some of his children have been raking in the awards.

The popular polygamist, who has four wives and 10 children, took to his Instagram timeline lauding his matriculant daughter, Abongwe, for receiving an academic award for achieving a 70% pass rate this year. She also got another award for selection to the KZN coastal U19 soccer team 2022 by KwaZulu-Natal High Schools’ Football Association girls’ committee. “There’s a lot I feel proud about as far as she is concerned. I don’t take all the credit because the mom has made so much of a contribution in encouraging her to study and focus. I’ve also supported her in her sport and academics, and I’ve allowed her to be what she wants to be. Raising her has not been much of a challenge, she is disciplined and very independent.

“She can engage and say what she wants. Most of the things we have been supporting her in, it has been out of her willingness and choices. We have been there as parents to make sure that we’re supportive,” Said Musa

On Thursday, Musa’s youngest son, who is in grade 3, received an award in maths and though he could not be present for the certificate handover, the reality TV star says he made sure to express his pride in him.

“I spoke to him and congratulated him in person and told him how proud I am of him.

On parenting, Musa said he learnt not to dictate his children’s dreams but rather nurture and encourage them to pursue their talents.

“I’m at the stage where I’m enjoying parenting a lot. I find more joy in seeing them achieving things that I wouldn’t have achieved in my time. They are excelling. I would encourage other parents to listen to their children … parents must allow their children to be what they want to be.”
