Mpiyakhe Zungu suspended from Isibaya

It seems drama within Mzansi Magic telenovela Isibaya happens on and off the screen – with veteran actor Siyabonga Thwala allegedly placed on “temporary leave”. Cast alleges he wants to be given special treatment onset.

Thwala, who is the darling of the show and plays the role of Mpiyakhe Zungu, is currently not shooting with Isibaya for reasons not publicly ventilated. The veteran actor, who is known for his roles in the now defunct SABC1 Generations, etv’s Scandal and Ryhthm City, is said to have made huge demands just as the show producers were preparing for the shoot of Isibaya season 8.

According to two cast members, Thwala wanted to be given special treatment since he is a veteran and he has been with the show from day one. It is very sad that Mpiyakhe is behaving like Isibaya revolves around his character. He has become too big for the producers,” the source said. A cast member who spoke to Sunday World on condition of anonymity said that Thwala always complained about what was included in the script. The veteran actor also wanted a pay hike since he was a lead character.

Another producer from the show who did not want to be named told Sunday World that there was no proper explanation why Thwala was not shooting. Concerns about Thwala’s future in Isibaya follow news that actress and TV personality Nomzamo Mbatha, who plays Thandeka Zungu-ndlovu, was leaving the show because of a busy work “schedule overseas”.

“Mbatha was supposed to die [on Friday] and must be buried during the opening of season 8. We are hoping that all the misunderstandings between Thwala and the producers will be sorted by then so that we can move on,” he said.

Mzansi Magic spokesman Irvin Pooe feigned surprise about Thwala’s alleged drama queen tendencies. “Siyabonga has been shooting last week and this week. He did take some time off earlier this month for personal reasons. Siyabonga is a very skilled and competent actor. He’s back on set. We are not aware of Mr Thwala jumping ship,” said Pooe. Attempts to get comment from Thwala drew a blank as he ignored phone calls and SMSES.

'Kanti how much do y’all think we make?'- Someone asked Candice Modiselle to donate R40k!

“Bathong my lovie, 40 tao e tswang kae?”
While the topic of actors and actresses being paid their worth continues to spark debate in SA, Candice Modiselle bashed the idea of people expecting money from celebs.

The actress shared her thoughts on the public’s perception that they had money, saying it was a little far-fetched.

She shared an experience she encountered recently of a young girl asking for a donation of R40k. Being surprised by the big ask, Candice took to Twitter and reminded fans that they should hold their horses, because most celebs didn’t earn nearly the amount of money the public believed they did.

“How much money do you guys think we make? This sweet sweet girl just asked me for a donation of R40k. I had to read the figure twice because bathong my lovie, 40 tao e tswang kae?

Speaking to TshisaLIVE last year, as her character on Generations: The Legacy was involved in a storyline about the fictional vithu virus, Candice spoke about the need for actors and actresses to be celebrated.

“People are starting to see now the work that goes into our craft. On any given day on set you see people work hard and do everything in their power to deliver powerful performances. You see sets that are different, locations that are different. You see a constant commitment to the story.”

Candice said that often South Africans don’t see the talent they possess because of the comparison with America, but that we should be proud of ourselves as a people.

'Please treat our designers with respect!' Penny Lebyane tells celebs

‘You lot don’t clean the clothes, don’t return them on time and (you) damage them’
Penny Lebyane has called for some decency from celebrities, saying they should respect the clothes designers loan them to make them shine on red carpets and at events.

Clothing designers need constant back massages, as they carry the entertainment industry in their hands, and from what Penny highlighted, Mzansi celebrities can do better by these talented creatives.

Sis called everybody out, asking them to respect designers because their failure to do so created a bad reputation for everyone in the industry.

“Dear celebs, influencers, ‘it’ boys and girls, whatever you call yourselves lately, and your stylists and managers, please can you treat our designers with respect. Now we can’t use designers’ clothes on loan because you lot don’t clean the clothes, don’t return them on time and (you) damage them,” she said.

Penny went on to talk about how “gross” it was that famous faces thought it was OK to return designers’ property late, unwashed and damaged. She said she’s been told of such cringeworthy incidents on multiple occasions by different designers.

“It’s gross … ” she concluded.

Y’all better put some respek on the designer’s names, maan!

5 Muvhango actors axed from drama

5 Muvhango actors axed from drama

Mzansi Magic’s new drama, the Omen, was forced to drop five former Muvhango actors from its planned cast after Multichoice’s decision to change the drama’s language from Venda to Pedi.

Sunday World can reveal that former Muvhango actors Candy Moloi, Millicent Makhado, Sylvester Makhado and Mulalo Mudau were among those who auditioned for roles in The Omen during auditions held in Venda, Limpopo, and Randburg in Johannesburg. They got the parts and their names were submitted to Multichoice for confirmation.

The entertainment giant later dropped a bombshell on the production company, Magic Drums Films, ordering it to change the drama’s setting and language.

Afro-pop and gospel singer and actress Maduvha Madima, who used to play the character of Vele Ramabulana on Muvhango, had also auditioned for a role in the drama, and her name was among those that were sent to Multichoice for confirmation.

To top it all, Muvhango’s lead actor Gabriel Temudzani and Millicent Makhado’s names and pictures were allegedly used to promote the drama on social media without their knowledge, allegedly creating rifts between the producers and the actors as they wanted answers since they never made it to the cast.

But sources close to the production said unlike Makhado, Temudzani had not auditioned for any role on the Mzansi Magic drama, and they said it was not clear if the posters were sanctioned by the production company.

The executive producer and director of Magic Drum Films, Mfariseni Dave Mukwevho, confirmed that all five former Muvhango actors including Madima had auditioned for roles in their drama, and he said their names were among those submitted to Multichoice for consideration.

“They had auditioned for Venda characters, but because of the channel’s instruction to change the language of the drama, they could not be considered,” he said.

The channel’s decision, according to Mukwevho, was communicated to the production company when they were still in pre-production after having finalised a list of actors to consider for roles in the drama.

“The scripts were ready from episode one, and because of the decision, we had to start from scratch,” he said.

Mukwevho said The Omen’s lead actor Lesley Musina, also a former Muvhango actor, was also affected by Multichoice’s decision, but he said the actor was saved by the fact that he was multilingual and could speak fluent Pedi.

Mukwevho said before joining the production company, he saw posters of Temudzani on social media indicating that he was part of the drama, but he said the actor never auditioned for a role in the drama.

Temudzani said he knew nothing about his links to The Omen, and did not remember auditioning for a role in the drama.

Makhado confirmed that she auditioned, but she said she thought she did not make it. “I thought maybe they changed the direction when I saw Pedi people on the drama,” she said.

Madima said her case was different from those who auditioned for Venda roles.

“I auditioned for a role of a daughter of a witch with the Sepedi crew. I only heard about the Venda auditions, but I did not go,” she said.

Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat shuts baby mama’s mouth

Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat shuts baby mama’s mouth

According to the Sunday World, the terms of the protection order which was handed down at the Randburg Magistrate’s Court, are that Khama Billat’s 22-year-old baby mama cannot make any contact with him. She is not even allowed to make mention of anything about Billiat to the media or any person.

Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has silenced his Baby Mama after being granted a permanent protection order against her at the courts.

If the alleged baby mama does not adhere to the order, a warrant for her arrest will be issued. “Amended as follows: not allowed to provide information about the applicant or personal matter relating to the applicant to any media house, social media or person” reads the court papers.

According to court officials who are privy to the matter, the baby mam was allegedly caught recording the court proceedings without permission. The sources say Billiat’s lawyer alerted the magistrate to this.

“The magistrate asked to check if she was recording the proceedings. The magistrate found that recording and deleted it immediately,” said the official. Attempts to get a comment from the baby mama drew a blank as her phone rang unanswered and texts read were not responded to.

In a statement ahead of the court order, Billiat had claimed that he received threats to kill him and his family.

“They [his family] are suffering from depression [brought on by the fact] that threats were made to them that they will be sorted out when I get killed. They are also afraid to go [out] in public because they are always followed by unknown people. Whenever they go out, my daughter cries when she sees people following [them],” read the papers.

Billiat ignored requests for comment. It was previously reported that the star player had sustained an injury from the alleged baby mama, which he disputed, adding that she orchestrated false media reports.

“She is very violent and aggressive [in her efforts] to destroy me. The threats and false media were published that I got stabbed. She had an article posted in Sunday World claiming I’m useless,” said Billiat in the papers.

“My family is not at peace at home, they are afraid. I’m also afraid to work because we are always followed by unknown people. I was threatened with death and my family is suffering from depression. At work I can’t concentrate,” said Billiat. “My family is not peace at home, they are afraid. I’m also afraid to work”.
