Simphiwe Dana apologises to Musa Mseleku for insulting comments & Mnakwethu hate

Musician and feminist Simphiwe Dana has issued a public apology over hurtful and insulting comments she leveled against popular polygamist and Mnakwethu host, Musa Mseleku, when she disagreed strongly with the show’s take on polygamy.

The apology came early on Tuesday after Musa demanded that Simphiwe personally apologises to him for the insults. Simphiwe made references about the possible size of Musa’s manhood, and also accused him of having an obsession with humiliating women.

“I have watched a few episodes of Mnakwethu in disbelief over the past few weeks. As a feminist, the emotional abuse and humiliation of women on the show really hurt and angered me greatly. As a result, I personalised that anger and took it out on Musa Mseleku.

“I unreservedly apologize for this. For any hurt I have caused him, I am truly sorry – and I believe there is another, less harmful way from all parties affected, that this conversation can be had,” read the statement.

Simphiwe had joined the increasing number of Mnakwethu viewers who have slammed the show and the unsettling pattern of male participants who seemingly distort traditions around polygamy to suit their personal desires.

“Is Mnakwethu the African tradition hill y’all are willing to die on? I say y’all because it could never be me. Women being humiliated like this could never have my stamp of approval. I can’t even believe it’s being flighted. Surely we have rights as women,” Simphiwe tweeted previously.

Musa previously told TshisaLIVE he had decided not to take the insults personally because he’s only the host of Mnakwethu, and the show isn’t about his life.

However, Musa later told Sowetan he felt Simphiwe had disrespected him and his family with her insults and he therefore expected an apology or else.

It appears Simphiwe has seen the error in the manner she approached the situation.

I HATE LOBOLA!

I HATE LOBOLA!

FOR years feminist Bomi Shinga has been vocal about her hatred of the lobola practice.

Last week she spoke about her point of view on Moja Love TV’s Umphakathi, sparking heated debate on social media.

Speaking to Daily Sun in Midrand in Joburg yesterday, she said: “I hate lobola. A woman is reduced to nothing but merchandise that makes babies.

“A husband has the right to ask for a refund if you have a factory fault such as inability to bear children.”

The feminist said African culture practises human trafficking.

“There’s money involved and a whole human being is treated like property. She is expected to do certain duties based on the fact that she was paid for,” she said.

But cultural expert Nonkosi Khabazela said Bomi has misunderstood the practice.

“It’s a way for the groom’s family to thank the bride’s family for giving them a makoti,” he said.

On the Daily Sun website, some people agreed with Bomi while others disagreed.

Kathy Smit said: “It’s not human trafficking if the woman gives consent and wants to marry the man. It would be human trafficking if her family asked for lobola in exchange for the woman and she didn’t want him.”
Tshepo Tlotleng said: “Lobola should be left alone. However, it should be whatever the groom can afford.”
Mpumelelo Sibiya said: “I don’t think it’s human trafficking. Parents should be reasonable when charging for lobola.”
Clement Matlala said: “Lobola is part of a patriarchal system. It’s hypocritical to talk about gender equality while practising a practice that is only facilitated by men to discuss a woman as a commodity.”
Sonny Kaburise said: “These days it’s used as extortion and the bride’s family demands huge sums.”

Pearl Thusi has pleaded with fans to not pirate the Netflix show Queen Sono, saying it could have a huge impact on others show coming out of Africa from Netflix.

Pearl is the toast of Mzansi at the moment, after last week’s premiere of the spy action-drama series, Netflix’s first African original series.

The show has been doing well worldwide, getting serious kudos from global media.

Caught up in the hype, one fan told Pearl she would do her part to support the series by downloading it, sharing a snap of her getting it from a file-sharing site.

Pearl was shocked and disappointed by the tweet and asked the fan not to pirate the show.

She said everyone involved had worked hard to make it a success and they needed all the watches on Netflix they could get.

“Babe, please don’t pirate our show. We worked so hard on it and the numbers via the platform itself will help the success of the show and other shows out of Africa on Netflix,” Pearl wrote.

Soon Pearl’s mentions were filled with reactions to her request, with some applauding her for speaking out.

Others said the fan could not afford Netflix and that support in any form was still support.

DJ Shimza weighed in on the debate, saying many who pirated songs only did so because they were free.

“99% of people that choose piracy do so not because they can’t afford to buy the music, but because they have an option of getting it for free.”

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade prove that couples who sweat together, stay together

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade prove that couples who sweat together, stay together

Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade prove that couples who sweat together, stay together.

Having a workout buddy yields many benefits. You feel more motivated to get to the gym, determined to go all out, and emotionally supported as you challenge yourself to reach and exceed your goals.

That person can help you stay on track and be your rock throughout your fitness journey. Typically we choose a like-minded friend or a colleague with a similar schedule to be that person for us. But, if you’re lucky, your workout buddy might just be your significant other.

Sharing fitness with your guy or girl can produce so many benefits for your relationship.

A shared goal of bettering yourself and growing alongside one another can do wonders for your personal development, and make you and your special someone feel more connected and united than ever before. We often see stories go viral where a couple are bonded in their weight-loss goals, and soar to incredible heights together. Other pairs bond over sweat sessions and get to know each other in more meaningful ways.

Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are known for their Instagram dancing videos, whereas Ciara and Russell Wilson run drills together. Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez always get their workouts in together, and Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake love their fun hotel workouts. But the couple I’m most in awe of right now who sets a prime example is Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade. The fit and fun pair are each other’s biggest cheerleaders as they sweat it out, and they frequently take to Instagram to walk fans through their regimens.

The actress and the athlete go all out on their “push days” in the gym – and it definitely helps having your person by your side when you’re giving your workout your all! Their routine consists of the Stairmaster, followed by a circuit focusing on the glutes, thighs, calves, and seated leg presses.

Using the Stairmaster requires maximum exertion if done correctly, because you’re various muscles throughout the short movements, and exercises your glutes, quads and calves. It also increases your heart rate and metabolism, and is a great cardio option. Gabrielle and Dwayne also do cable machine pushes,

single-leg balances, and they use the Core-Tex balance trainer for a full-body workout. This specialized machine mimics planks, but takes the movement to a whole new level.

Aside from their hard-hitting workouts, the Bad Boys II star and the NBA player also take care of their bodies by prioritizing healthy habits. “I started drinking a gallon of water a day in my mid-thirties and some people have called me a vampire or that I’m using embalming fluid, or other crazy things,” Gabrielle previously told Fitness magazine. “But honestly, my hair, skin, and nails all changed once I started drinking a gallon of water a day.”

She also told Women’s Health that she loves sweat sessions with her hubby: “Training together, it’s been a cool thing that doesn’t feel like, ‘Let’s go talk about our feelings.’ It’s like, I’m a cool mom!”
