Rami Chuene #PayItForward A very important thread to success

Actress Rami Chuene has reflected on the love and unity that dominated in the entertainment industry back in the day.

The star dropped some serious pearls of wisdom, encouraging her followers in a #PayItForward thread on Twitter.

“Back in the days when we started out in the industry, we had an undeclared circle of one where, if one got called for an audition, we’d call each other and all go, as long as one of us got it”, she told her followers.

She flashed back to a time when actresses like Sonia Mbele, Flo Masebe, Lucia Mthiyane and many others were part of her acting journey.

She said they used to fax each other scripts and rock up at auditions prepared. They had moments of lending each other clothes and shoes so they all looked the part.

“We gave each other lifts, shared taxi money, used each other’s makeup even though we were all different shades. Yes, we even shared wigs, hats and doeks. Whatever it took, we did it. Imagine me and Portia Gumede using same foundation.”

Rami reminded people not to forget where they come from, and those who played a part in their lives.

“Do it (good deeds). No one will ever forget your name. You’ll never be left out in the cold. Hope you’re encouraged to remember and name those who have helped you. We move, we push, we carry on”, the actress said.

Sis advised her fans to always remember to take someone with them on their way up.

“Always remember to take someone with you. Be helpful, be mindful, be kind. Do it for the culture, for the arts, for the love,” she wrote.

To prove her point, Rami told her followers she has never been without a job. She said opportunities always find her because she was taught to pay it forward and pull one or three people with her on her way up.

People flocked to her page with double taps, with even Miss Universe, Zozibini Tunzi, applauding Rami for encouraging unity.

Zozibini wrote, “A very important thread. We all are because someone was,” inserting a love emoji. “Do the same. Pass on the baton. Pay it forward.”

Connie Ferguson’s daughter, Lesedi Matsunyane, 'I’m not in their shadow. I’m shining my own light and walking down the same path simultaneously'

When she’s not working hard at the gym with fitness mother Connie Ferguson, Lesedi Matsunyane is on the set of eTV’s Rhythm City.

Lesedi made her debut in Tuesday night’s episode of the soapie, playing the role of an African-American 20-year-old called Davina Moore, who learns the ins and outs of Joburg culture.

Speaking to TshisaLIVE, Lesedi said her acting career was “slowly but surely” making strides after almost a decade.

“This industry is not a basket of roses. Rhythm City is a big deal to me because of its platform and its reach to the South African audience, especially the youth. It also came at a time when I had taken a hiatus to focus on casting, so it reaffirmed to me that I’ve still got it.”

Though she’s the daughter of “well-known and connected” parents, Lesedi rubbished suggestions that she got ahead in the game because of them.

“Funny enough, even though there will always be nepotism claims, I’ve definitely built up a repertoire where, even though my families are linked, my craft still speaks for itself. That in itself is a blessing.”

She added: “I’m not in their shadow. I’m shining my own light and walking down the same path simultaneously. I’d like to think I’m adding to the lineage rather than being shadowed by it.”

Talking about her ambitions, Lesedi said she’d love to do more work in front of the camera, as a huge goal for her was to be in international productions, as well as Netflix series.

“Universe, hear me now,” she laughed.

Lesedi made her debut in The Queen last year. She graduated with a BA in Live Performance from Afda.

The reason that the Ozalo viewers continue to rise

The reason that the Ozalo viewers continue to rise

If you have been wondering why Uzalo’s viewership has skyrocketed, it’s all because the soapie prides itself with a simple storyline and characters that ordinary people can relate to. When the show started in 2015, it hit the five-million mark in terms of viewership. From then it grew to nine million viewership; but its biggest highlight was clocking 10.2- million, becoming the most-watched television show in SA in 2018.

According to the show’s creative director Mmamitse Thibedi, it wasn’t that difficult to achieve the feat because from the onset they decided that they would only explore organic storylines and have characters that speak to their audience.

“We try to keep it very close home and the stories, our stories, are organic and relatable. We are trying to bring our characters close to our viewers. We don’t design characters that people cannot relate to,” Thibedi said.

She explained that in December, the numbers went down but they were not shaken because all shows suffer at that time. “It drops for everyone because of the holidays. At the end of January, it picks up again. We keep a very close eye on the numbers and we make sure we respond appropriately.

Over the past years, Uzalo’s storyline has opened a debate on special network, with people complaining that it was difficult to follow and not making sense at times. The soapie had many viewers talking with its multiple-cheating episodes. It all started with the story of Mamlambo marrying Nkunzi, her best friend’s husband.

Kelly Khumalo Sis won’t quit gospel music over hate

Kelly Khumalo has once again taken aim at those who profess to love God but bully others on social media.

The star was dragged recently after she posted a snap of herself in the bathtub, with her underwear lying on the floor.

Kelly Khumalo Sis won't quit gospel music over hate

Sis was lambasted for “not respecting herself”, while others questioned how she could sing gospel music when she was posting such racy snaps.

Kelly hit back in an Instagram video, asking her critics how the snap defined her relationship with God.

“I am still battling to understand how a picture in a bathtub, and a pair of knickers on the floor, define my relationship with God. For the longest time, I have watched the so-called Christians getting away with judging people to the extent where we have people that fear going to the house of the Lord or fear being vocal about their relationship with God because people will judge them.”

She said that her choices had nothing to do with anyone and she would continue singing gospel music for as long as she wanted.

“My choices, my life, my relationship with God has absolutely nothing to do with you. I will continue to sing gospel music, whenever I feel like. I will not have you or anyone else try take that away from me.”

One fan called on Kelly to apologise for the racy picture, but the songstress was not having any of it and told her to take a hike.

“Take your love and shove it where the sun don’t shine. Apologise for what?” she said.

Kelly has spoken before on the hate she has received, telling fans that hate had a habit of returning to its sender.

“We project so much hate towards others and forget that the very same hate is enough to drive God to open a flood of blessings towards those we spend so much energy hating on,” she wrote.

Actress and singer Maduvha says artists shouldn’t have to die from the depression that is often caused by the desire to live up to the expectations society places on them, and she has started a foundation to help where she can.

Maduvha sat down with Jacob Moshokoa to talk about her musical journey on Newzroom Afrika. She said her music and her Nyarara Foundation will be used to help every artist dealing with depression.

“Being an artist, I also went through depression and I didn’t know who to speak to and who to cry out to. I thought it would be very selfish of me not to reach out to other people.

“We are saying, let’s not lose another artist to depression,” she said.

Maduvha has also used her social media platforms to speak about her own journey with depression.

“People tend to hide their pain. The sad reality is people around you actually know your truth but will not probe and instead watch you sink. Not everyone will have the guts to confront you. They’ll watch you sink and even talk about it, but not talk to you about it.”

“Nyarara has such a powerful inspirational and uplifting message., I had my fair share of misery but I made a choice to be where I am today,” she wrote previously on Instagram.

How can I help with My husband? he will die

How can I help with My husband? he will die

When I met my man, we were both fit. We ate as healthily as possible and even exercised together. Recently his health started deteriorating and we discovered he has a terminal illness. He’s upbeat and assures me he’ll beat this disease.

But in all honesty, I can see he’s not the same and the doctor disclosed to me that he might not have long to live. I’m really shattered and am always in tears when he’s not watching. His illness is taking a toll on me. He can’t do the things he used to do for himself and they’re now my responsibility. I’m not taking it well emotionally. Can you give me advice on how to cope? DEVASTATED WIFE

MOVE! EXPERT ADVICE

What an unfortunate yet privileged position to be in – being such an important part of someone’s journey at such a lifedefining moment of their life. Being in love with a terminally ill person is heartbreaking, yet it puts you in a uniquely honourable position.

BEING COMMITTED

Learning that your partner is terminally ill far into your relationship undoubtedly is devastating. Even though we’re all aware of the fragility of our lives, no one can ever be prepared for it. The whole experience is indeed frustrating, disempowering, energy-sapping, hopeless and eventually sickening.

We’ve never been in your shoes and therefore can’t express enough sympathy at what you’re going through. We can only imagine the trauma. While providing the necessary support for your husband, it’s important to ensure you’re not only in the right frame of mind but strong enough to deal with him in his weak state. This means that if you’ve made a conscious decision to be with him through the process, you need to be absolutely committed all the way. He’ll need you to be strong for him.

Committing fully to the process means you’re prepared to shoulder responsibilities you never thought you’d have to manage, including providing hands-on care for him. To suddenly play the role of his cheerleader and primary caregiver, as well as counsellor, nurse and personal assistant, without due regard for yourself and your hopes is an incredibly unselfish task. But it is also a privilege because you are building precious memories that will be unique to you and that no one will be able to take away from you.

GETTING HELP

However, beyond the help you provide and the palliative care from a hospice, you may need to ask for assistance from family members. Caring for a dying spouse can be exhausting. Both of you will benefit from the break. It’ll give you time to unwind, and your man can be relieved of the guilt that’s generally felt when you are dependent on others to meet your everyday needs.

We recommend that you get him the palliative care a hospice can provide. You need to do this knowing that you are ill-equipped, both professionally and emotionally, to deal with a terminally ill person.

According to the World Health Organization, “Palliative care is an approach that improves the quality of life of patients and their families facing problems associated with life-threatening illness through the prevention and relief of suffering, the early identification and impeccable assessment and treatment of pain and other problems, physical, psychosocial and spiritual”.

BRINGING CLOSURE

You may also want to play an active role in reuniting him with loved ones he hasn’t seen in a while. We imagine this is the time he needs all the love and care he can get, especially from people who have known him from a long time. There may even be those who still need to go through some form of forgiveness and reconciliation with him.

That said, he may prefer to narrow his circle as time goes on to just few individuals. When time is limited, it’s important that his wishes and preferences be honoured. Always keep in mind that, important as you may be in his life at this point, it’s not about you anymore. It’s all about him, and the care you help provide.

To be of proper service to him you must have, or develop, the self-awareness not to make his illness about you. At times when you don’t know what to say, just listen. His terminal illness doesn’t suddenly require you to solve his problems with your words. We know you’re sad, afraid, confused and generally don’t know what to say. That’s okay! Say less and listen more.

Furthermore, although all adults should have wills, many don’t. If your husband does not have a will, encourage him to create one. You will want peace of mind when he passes on. Remember, your love and compassion can prolong his life. You have an opportunity to be the angel he most needs on this planet. You have the chance to give faith to a person who’s probably lost it. It certainly won’t be easy, but we encourage you to step up and do it.

refugee attack police in court

refugee attack police in court

All hell broke loose in the Cape Town magistrate’s court on Friday when a police detective tried to arrest refugee “leader” Jean Pierre Balous.

Balous made headlines after leading hundreds of refugees and asylum seekers during a sit-in outside the city offices of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in October. They demanded to be transported to another country, citing fears about xenophobic violence in SA.

Balous appeared in court on Friday in connection with eight cases of assault, five of which were assault with intention to do grievous bodily harm.

But the courtroom quickly degenerated into chaos when an investigating officer stepped in to arrest the 38-year-old Congolese national on another warrant of arrest.

The pandemonium was captured on video and showed a brawl between Balous’ supporters and court officials, including police.

In the video, the investigating officer can been seen trying to apprehend Balous who resisted while his supporters pushed and shoved police officers and court officials. The crowd then left the courtroom with Balous who, according to eyewitnesses, had the officer’s handcuffs in his hand.

Court officials fearing for their safety got out of way and the angry crowd marched out.

Eye-witnesses told TimesLIVE that when the investigating officer approached Balous to execute the warrant, he shouted: “You piece of s*** you won’t arrest me!”

The officials, who cannot be named because they are not authorised to speak to the media, said Balous’ supporters then joined in and hurled chairs around.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that some people were injured in the scuffle, one being reportedly bitten on the nose.

CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA – OCTOBER 9 Refugees in Cape Town, South Africa, have arrived in droves to occupy the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR) office in the Cape Town CBD. They are demanding that the UN place them in safer countries because they fear xenophobic attacks. (Footage by Gallo Images/Wesley Fester)

Western Cape police spokesperson Capt Frederick van Wyk confirmed the incident.

“During the court appearance of one of the leaders of a group of refugees and asylum seekers at the Cape Town magistrate’s court, a group of supporters attacked the police, assisted the accused in escaping from police custody and intimidated police,” said Van Wyk.

“Public Order police assisted by Metro Police took action. They rearrested the accused in Caledon Street and arrested two other suspects for defeating the ends of justice, resisting arrest, assault and intimidation. All three will appear in court on Monday.”

The matter was postponed to March 19.

Hundreds of refugees have been on the streets since October last year, but after being removed from the UNRHC office in St Georges street they occupied the Central Methodist Mission and the surrounding area.

The Western Cape High Court granted the City of Cape Town permission to remove the refugees and to enforce its bylaws in public spaces after complaints by residents and businesses about the refugees living in the CBD.

Cape Town mayoral committee member for safety and security JP Smith said at a media briefing on Thursday that the city was considering going to the high court again for urgent relief to clarify the roles of other government departments in the saga, including home affairs and the police.

He claimed that after the refugees were moved from Greenmarket Square on Sunday, they went on to occupy a public park in Constitution Street “placing them in contempt of the court order” which effectively interdicts them from occupying public spaces.

“On Tuesday March 3 2020, the city’s enforcement agencies and the sheriff of the court sought to continue to enforce the court order. Initially there was resistance but the group then proceeded to the Cape Town Central Police Station, escorted by the city’s enforcement agencies, to be placed under arrest,” said Smith.

“However, the SAPS declined to accept an intended charge laid by the sheriff, disputing that the order authorises the arrest of refugees who remain in contempt. SAPS has expressed the view that the high court would have to be approached again for such relief,” he said.

The high court order gave the city and the department of home affairs seven court days to conduct a verification process for the refugees who occupied the open area outside the Central Methodist Mission in Greenmarket Square.

According to Smith 781 foreign nationals participated in the verification process and 538 of them were in SA legally.

He said 236 of them had no papers and some had fraudulent identity documents leading to a few arrests.

He said that at the start of the verification process 226 children were living on the street among the refugees. After the process only 42 were left.

Police spokesperson Brig Novela Potelwa said the situation was “complex and requires an integrated approach that will encompass various role players from all spheres of government and civil society”.

“Thinking that a single entity can wave a magic wand that would make the challenge disappear, would be underestimating the gravity of the issue.”

Just when viewers of Kwa MaMkhize reality show thought they were cool with Shauwn Mkhize‘s “rich rich” life, they were taken back to square one when they discovered another wing to her mansion and so many other cool features to her house.

The Durban businesswoman’s show has received mixed reviews for its entertainment value and content since it first aired, but the one thing fans won’t front about is how much they wish they could have her “kind” of guap.

Shauwn Mkhize revealed the other Wing of her Mansion #KwaMaMkhize

Thursday’s episode saw Andile ask for another crazy amount of money and introduced fans to another part of the house they didn’t even know about. But it was the “walk-in” fridge that caused commotion on the TL.

The helper’s kitchen looked better than the kitchens fans have seen on Top Billing! That’s how hectic Shauwn’s house is.

“Every time I watch the show, I am reminded that we must all really be here to watch Shauwn Mkhize and her family show us how we should be living life. We’re basically here to watch them then die,” one tweep said.

With the coronavirus now in SA, some fans even felt like the way Shawn’s house is set up, she could provide a venue for quarantine and people in the same house would never even bump into each other.
