Assault unfortunate casualty executed before family in Gauteng home

Assault unfortunate casualty executed before family in Gauteng home

Johannesburg – “She was never prepared for half of what she went through, but she got through it. She always will. She is me.”
These are the foreboding and almost prophetic last words posted by Kutlwano Masilo on Facebook a few hours before she was shot and killed by an unknown man in full view of her family.

Kutlwano, a gang-rape victim, was killed last month in her home in Etwatwa, a week after her second court attendance for the incident that occurred on February 19, 2017.

One of her rape accused was arrested a year after the incident, and shortly thereafter, Kutlwano’s mother, Madikgang Masilo, began receiving threatening calls instructing her to tell her daughter to drop the charges or risk being killed.

“He said if I love my family, we must not go through with the case,” said Masilo, adding that they recorded the threats and presented the recording in court as evidence and the magistrate had cautioned the accused saying if anything happened to Kutlwano or her family, he would be held accountable.

This week, Masilo spoke of the heavy pain she carries with her after witnessing her daughter being murdered in cold bold by an unknown assailant. The man, she explained, arrived at their home that fateful evening demanding to see Kutlwano.

“Kutlwano demanded to know who the man was and also chided me for calling her to see strangers. She said to me ‘one day you’ll call me only for me to get killed’. And that was when the gunman pulled out his gun and shot her eight times.

“After shooting Kutlwano, he pointed the gun at me, and I ran back inside the house. My daughter was killed like a dog, and I can’t get over that,” she said.

Kutlwano’s uncle, Lucky Maebane, who was in the house withher grandparents, said the gunman casually walked away from the scene to a car that was parked almost 100 metres away and lit a cigarette before getting in the car and fleeing.

“It doesn’t even take a rocket scientist to see that these two incidents are linked. That man is an inkabi (a hired assassin), he knew exactly what his assignment was, and that was to kill my niece,” said Maebane.

“The streets were busy, but it seemed like people were under a spell because no one did anything to stop him,” he said, adding that this way of silencing rape victims had become common in Etwatwa.

“This is definitely the end. It will go down as another cold case because police won’t find him,” he said in despair.

Gauteng’s police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela said in cases of intimidation, protection is always offered to the victim.

“The intimidated person needs to report that to the police and bring it to the attention of courts, and they will be able to take action by giving the victim protection,” he said.

Rise Up Against GBV’s Mandisa Khanyile said the law does not protect rape victim in South Africa because safe houses “are only open to high-profile cases like espionage and hardly for GBV cases.”

“Shelters are supposed to be alternatives and be in secret locations, but you can’t live in a shelter until a case is concluded because an average shelter stay in the country is four months while it takes three years to conclude an average court case, leaving victims in danger,” said Khanyile.

“What we’ve also found is that when the media asks victims to share their stories during Women’s month or the 16-Days of Activism, most of those survivors end up being threatened by their perpetrators, if not physically assaulted. And the media does not provide any protection to them.”

She shared two such cases, one where a GBV survivor was kicked out by her husband after sharing her story, and a second one was discovered by the perpetrator and assaulted at her house.

The solution, according to Khanyile, is to strengthen the justice system to be functional.

“There are so many ways that the criminal justice system should be protecting survivors, but because it is dysfunctional, cases slip through the cracks,” she said.

Gospel star Nosipho fighting for her life in hospital

Gospel star Nosipho fighting for her life in hospital

One of her hit gospel songs goes like: Ujehova Angekhe Avume Ngempilo Yami (loosely translated, God shall never allow me to suffer). But it seems the opposite has been happening with award-winning gospel star Nosipho “Mhizana” Daniels’ health.

This after the Cape Town-born musician and motivational speaker had a near-death experience. She was admitted to the Groote Schuur hospital for a week, for high blood pressure and kidney problems.

The 39-year-old songbird opened up to the SunTeam this past week. about what led to her admission to the hospital.

She admitted her “nasty” divorce from her ex-husband Zola Mtyhobile, which happened nine years ago, was still affecting her and was the reason for her deteriorating health.

But Nosipho said she still carried the scars that she suffered during her marriage.

And, while she goes around the country conducting motivational talks about divorce and trying hard to appear strong, Nosipho said deep down she was still haunted by her divorce.

She said Zola didn’t want peace in her life and had been making her life a living hell ever since their divorce.

“That man hurt me a lot and has turned my life upside down. He always provokes me at every chance he gets. It’s as if he wants to see me six feet under,” said Nosipho with a tinge of sadness in her voice.

The last straw, Nosipho adds, was when she learnt -just before being admitted in hospital- that her ex-hubby had removed their two children from his medical aid without informing her.

“He knows that I am struggling to make ends meet and decided to cut his own flesh and blood from the medical aid. I often had to rely on my father and friends when my children have to see a doctor, whereas their father is there,” she said.

This is not the first time that Nosipho, who is also a promoter, was admitted to hospital.

Two years ago her high-blood pressure shot up following a dispute with gospel star Andile Majola over money allegedly owed to her.

“Yes, I was admitted to Groote Schuur Hospital in January. I started having severe headaches in December. At first, I took some aspirin and thought they would go away. But in January while I was home in Cape Town, they became worse. My dad rushed me to the hospital where I was admitted immediately,” she said.

After doctors conducted tests they discovered that besides the high blood pressure she also had kidney problems.

Zola’s phone rang unanswered and he failed to respond to our WhatsApp messages.

Why Prophet Bushiri and Finance minister fight over pregnancy

Why Prophet Bushiri and Finance minister fight over pregnancy

IN VERY strong language, former Zimbabwean deputy finance minister Terence Mukupe has accused Prophet Shepherd Bushiri of making his wife pregnant.

“I will rock up at his church,” said Mukupe in a voice recording.

“I SENT HER MONEY SO SHE COULD FLY TO HIM SO HE COULD F**K HER.”

Terence claimed the prophet had an affair with Rachel Jambaya, known as Rachel J, who allegedly lived with Terence as his wife at the time of the alleged encounters.

Last week, the ex-minister sent heated voice notes on WhatsApp which Daily Sun has in its possession.

He said he was not afraid of Bushiri and would come to South Africa this week.

“There are people who have told me to leave Bushiri alone. I won’t do that. He has never dealt with my kind,” said Terence.

He said when his wife was in Rustenburg, she asked him to send her R100 000.

“She said the prophet had asked for it so she could sit in the church,” he said.

He said he thought she was naive but gave it to her.

Bushiri has broken his silence on Instagram and Facebook.

“It’s not in my nature to respond to allegations levelled against me,” he said.

“However, it has come to my attention that Terence Mukupe, a disgraced former deputy minister in Zimbabwe, has made false allegations that I’m responsible for his wife’s pregnancy.

“The basis of his allegations are screenshots of chats and messages purportedly between me and his wife.”

He said he was not on WhatsApp or Messenger and had not been for three years. He said he had not travelled out of Mzansi in 13 months and could not have met the woman in Malawi. Bushiri also said the contact number on the screenshots is not his.

“Whoever was speaking to this man’s wife isn’t me.”

He said the Bible teaches to forgive and forget, but those who make defamatory and damaging allegations must face the music.

He said since last year, he had been suing every newspaper that carried fake stories about him.

“Media house after media house have been apologising and paying damages for their lies,” he said.

“I call on Terence Mukupe to respect his wife, his marriage and his children.”

He said Mukupe painted himself in a bad light and opened his wife to abuse.

“I call on him to respect my family and everyone else. These false allegations stay on the internet forever and will harm many lives.”

He said to sue Mukupe and take money from him would be unfortunate.

“Sir, fear God,” said Bushiri.

Rachel J also broke her silence and released a statement through her family.

The statement denied the allegations and says she and the former minister were never married but were living together.

Mukupe was apparently so hurt at being dumped that he attacked Rachel J physically and tried to kill her, vowing that if he could not have her, no other man would.

Rachel J is said to have dumped Mukupe because he allegedly fathered four children with other women while they were together.

“As you know, Terence Mukupe relies on unseemly and ungodly false attacks on others to maintain relevance.

“It’s a malicious and desperate attack on Rachel J and our family by a disgruntled individual. He swore if he can’t have Rachel J, no one else will.”

However we failed to get a comment from the former minister who was said to be in Mzansi at the moment.

Yesterday, Enlightened Christian Gathering spokesman Ephraim Nyondo told Daily Sun the claims were malicious and they did not take them lightly.

“You can check the prophet’s statement for comment,” he said.

Twitter user, @Munyai_R_Gundo shared a screengrab, where, presumably, a music promoter by the name, Bhuti SFK Sithole detailed how, in the year 2018 Zamar was adamant at being placed in close proximity to Sjava. Including a request, if she could perform before or after Sjava, her dressing room to be next to Sjava.

The “promoter” ended the piece by questioning why Zamar was comfortable with her alleged rapist.

The clip was clearly recorded during the course of their super-private relationship, therefore many are hoping that Zamar’s not accusing him to get his attention.

A mom, successful businesswoman and talented DJ Zinhle has received the Forbes Woman Africa Entertainer Award.

Forbes held an event to celebrate notable African women in various fields in KwaZulu-Natal this Friday, hosted by Pabi Moloi.

DJ Zinhle accepted her award with her daughter Kairo Owethu Forbes and has been flooded with messages from fans who couldn’t be happier for the Umlilo artist.

The Citizen reports that other winners had included COGTA Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma who was awarded the Forbes Woman Africa Legacy Award and Charmaine Mabuza ( co-founder of Zamani Holdings) who bagged the Forbes Woman Africa Social Impact Award.

Commenting on the award ceremony, Forbes applauded those who had been honoured for their achievements:

“What a power packed evening! We extend our congratulations again to all our Forbes Woman Africa award winners – keep pushing the boundaries, crashing the glass ceiling and forging the path for other powerful African women.”

Commenting on her win, DJ Zinhle highlighted the importance of instilling the seeds of power in our children:

“Let’s be sure to remind ourselves & our children that ‘You’re destined for greatness, live your life intentionally! Wake up with purpose and make the decision that every day is your day and don’t let anyone tell you what you can or cannot do. You’re the director of your life.”

Briefly.co.za reported that the break up with AKA hadn’t gotten her down. Family is number one and Zinhle isn’t going to let a breakup ruin the strong team she had. They are still a unit, just not a romantic one.

“Kiernan, my mom and I, everyone is just getting along. Our break-up hasn’t broken up the family. It doesn’t have to be a romantic relationship to make a family work and that is what we are trying to do now.” And that right there is how a boss babe handles business!”

Pabi Moloi arrested(I had drinks and decided to drive my self home

One thing about life is, once you accept that you wronged something and you apologize, that is what is called wisdom. Thursday night would be a night of regret for media personality Pabi Moloi after she was arrested after a night out on the town.

Pabi Moloi arrested(I had drinks and decided to drive my self home

Pabi, after a couple of drinks on Thursday night, decided to drive herself home and got pulled over by the police. She states that she was arrested and regrets her poor decision making that night in a heartfelt apology she posted on all her socials.

It’s truly worth applauding that nobody got hurt that night and that Pabi is apologetic and remorseful of her decision to drink and drive.

This was a moment of reflection for the star and she is ready to submit to the consequences of her actions and leaves the ball in the courts’ hands.

We can all learn from Pabi’s mistake and hopefully take in that nobody is indispensable- even our favourite Mzansi celebs are merely human.

6 people died in a car accident

6 people died in a car accident in a head on collision on the N2 Road between Mkhondo and Pongola. The horrific crash happened on Saturday (7 March) when the third vehicle crashed into one of the vehicles that had already collided.

It is reported five of the deceased died at the scene while the sixth person succumbed to injuries after being taken to the hospital.

Two people who passed on were from the same vehicle while four other victims were occupants in another vehicle.

According to a statement released by the department of community safety, two people were seriously injured while one person escaped with slight injuries.

Community safety MEC in Mpumalanga Gabisile Shabalala called on to motorists to use the road with great caution.

Shabalala said in a statement that with increased cooperation among the road users, crashes can be minimised.

She encouraged motorists to obey the rules and overtake only when it is safe to do so.

“While as government we will continue to implement various programmes on road safety, motorists have a responsibility for their safety and that of their passengers. Rules must be obeyed at all times,” she said.

“Road user behaviour remains one of the key ingredients towards making our roads safer,” said Shabalala who also extended her heartfelt condolences to the affected families.

The cause of the collision is remains unclear at this stage but the police along with safety engineering unit in the department have commenced with the investigation into the cause of the crash.
