Ukhozi FM Song of the Year Results Spark Debate
As in years past, Ukhozi FM’s announcement of its annual Song of the Year sparked division among music fans. Culture commentator Phil Mphela reported on social media platform X that Khuzani’s gqom song “Umjolo Lowo” secured the top spot with 993,667 votes.
Maskandi artist Mthandeni SK’s “Paris” came in second with over 746k votes. Mphela shared the full top 10, noting he would offer considered commentary the next day.
Fans quickly aired views on the results on social media. Some expressed disappointment that maskandi didn’t claim number one. Others highlighted that one’s favourite doesn’t win if they didn’t vote.
This prompted debate around Khuzani performing immediately after the announcement, fueling claims of rigged numbers. One user jokingly suggested an investigation was needed.
But it’s funny how voting closed at 11pm and khuzani was there already waiting to perform ngo12..
