STEVE Kekana’s family is fighting with his ex-wife, Nontsikelelo.

At the heart of the conflict is a posthumous award and R10 000 Steve has been awarded by the Limpopo Legends Awards.

Steve’s brother, Simon, told Daily Sun the family gave permission to event organiser, Mphoza Mashabela, to honour his late brother.

“We have been communicating with Mphoza and we have given him permission to honour Steve.

“We’re surprised that Nontsikelelo now wants to block this good gesture. She has told the event organisers that nothing can be done without her. We are confused because they were no longer married,” he said.

Mphoza said they wanted to honour Steve for his work.

“We will also hand over R10 000 to his family. However, I have been receiving calls and messages from Steve’s stepdaughter Monica,” he said.

“She said her mum Nontsikelelo was the only one who could give permission, not Simon. Monica said her mum would be coming to the event to accept the R10 000 and award.

Mphoza said: “I don’t want to be caught in their fight. and I wouldn’t want to withdraw Steve’s name from the list. My prayer is for the two parties to resolve this.”

The SunTeam has seen messages from Simon and Monica.

Monica said: “I contacted Mphoza because my mother and Steve were still married and I’m not going to answer anything further.”

Nontsikelelo said: “I have nothing to say about this.”

The awards will be held on 28 October at The Ranch Hotel in Polokwane.
