Kgomotso Christopher says goodbye to Scandal!

Playing Yvonne Langa for more than four years on Mzansi soapie Scandal made Kgomotso Christopher relate to the character with relative easiness, viewers have loved and hated her in equal measure, however, on set she is neither a good lady nor is she a villain.

Despite playing the character for such a long time, she and Yvonne share no similarities.

Over the years, she has made a personal bond with television viewers and would be sad to be separated from those she had now taken in as family members. Painfully, love or hate it, the lovely actress is now ready to bid fans farewell.

NOT YOUR TYPICAL CHARACTER

She is as stealth as a leopard, one rarely sees her coming. According to Kgomotso, YV, as she is fondly known by her legion followers after co-star Neo Mokhethi (Jerry Mofokeng wa Makhetha) named her, is a woman who is difficult to understand.

“She is a multi-dimensional woman and that is why I constantly have to be on my A-game. She likes the finer things in life but when you see where she comes from and how she adapts to that lifestyle then you can sort of see what has informed the decisions she has made in the past. She is forward and knows about everyone’s business, but she has a past that she never opens about. I mean the people closest to her have never heard her mention her mother until recently,” she said.

She has appeared to be some sort of a gold-digger who could do all it takes to get what she wants and do so at all costs. However, viewers have been exposed to her other and softer side. This follows after she had to take care of her mother and young Tebello (Litlhonolofa (Litlhonolofatso Litlhakanyane).

Saying hello is much easier than saying goodbye, what an emotional and painful, but happy ending, Kgomotso said she is walking out of Scandal a happy person and is pleased YV won’t be killed off.

As for now viewers shouldn’t worry much as they will continue seeing her on their screens until her last episode on 2 June, then after that, she will be going to Canada to be with her daughter, Naledi.

“As my last day in YV’s shoes approaches, I can’t help but reminisce about the thrill ride it’s been to navigate this gem of a character, gifted to me by the dedicated and talented Scandal! writers. Scandal! will always hold a special place in my heart because through the efforts, talents, and love of the cast and crew, I grew so much as an artist and experienced so many career milestones, including my Safta best actress win and recent best supporting actress nomination,” she said.

CAREER PROSPECTS

Kgomotso is still in the loop, she is happy to be auditioning again. “I do not have anything lined up yet but it was time for a change and to let Yvonne go. I am leaving to explore my career doing other things. I will definitely not be sitting at home,” she said.

Speaking about her two jackets, she and her character have few things in common. However, she managed to switch from being one person to the next with no effort.

“I have thought about this long and hard and there are really none. She is always done up in gorgeous dresses and heels and I am a jeans and sneakers kind of girl even though our hair is different, I like mine short. I think the only similarity we have is that we both like poker. I do not gamble like she does but I just like playing card games,” she said.

She has had a good working relationship with others, from the cast to the production team. Ziyanda Mngomezulu, Head of Local Productions at e.tv has only good things to say about Kgomotso.

“We have been fortunate to have Kgomotso on our screens. Her professionalism, infectious personality, and enthusiastic spirit has been a great asset to our channel. We will miss having Kgomotso as a part of the family, and we wish her all the best in her life’s next chapter. It is certainly never goodbye, but rather see you later,” said Ziyanda.
