Kelly Khumalo’s song ‘Ngathwala Ngaye’ heats up speculations

SONG behind South African singer Kelly Khumalo’s pinned tweet has set tongues wagging on Twitter after defence advocate Malesela Teffo’s claim that he has an eyewitness who will testify that the singer shot her then-boyfriend and soccer star Senzo Meyiwa, in the Gauteng High Court, Pretoria, on Wednesday 1 June.

Former Bafana Bafana captain and Orlando Pirates goalkeeper Senzo Meyiwa was believed to have been killed in an armed robbery at Khumalo’s mother’s home in Vosloorus, Gauteng, on 26 October 2014.

Five hitmen – Muzikawukhulelwa S’Tembu Sibiya, Bongani Sandiso Ntanzi, Mthobisi Prince Mncube, Mthokoziseni Ziphozonke Maphisa and Fisokuhle Ntuli — were arrested and charged after being accused of murdering Meyiwa. The hitmen are currently on trial for the soccer star’s murder.

Advocate Malesela Teffo, who is representing four of the five accused, made a bombshell claim in court today (1 June). He claimed that he has a witness who can testify that Kelly shot Senzo by mistake. Twitter users have since been discussing the claim and have noticed the song behind her pinned tweet. Kelly’s pinned tweet is two photos of herself with the caption “Ngwathwala Ngaye” – which is the title of the song.

The words mean “I made a sacrifice with him” when translated to English. This led many Tweeps to believe that Kelly was referring to sacrificing Senzo’s life for fame in the song.

This is not the first of Kelly’s songs that has come under fire. The singer released Asine in 2014, the year Senzo died. The song was about a woman being arrested because she killed her husband.

Senzo was reportedly “warned” about a dark cloud around Kelly, according to his former wife Mandisa Mkhize.

Mandisa wrote a tell-all book, titled 666_9, in which she spoke about Senzo’s friends and a traditional healer warning him about Kelly.

Senzo’s friend Mthoko Twala also warned the soccer star about the singer.

“I warned him, Senzo you’re getting yourself into hot water. You will burn,” Twala was quoted saying.

“I’m begging you … She has a lot of baggage over her, there’s a dark spiritual cloud upon her … you are going to be a sacrifice,” Twala continued according to Mandisa, reported by The Citizen.

Another section of the book claimed the soccer star’s parents took him to a traditional healer who predicted his death and warned him about his relationship.

“The ancestors are completely not happy about this … if you do not stop this, it will end with a gun. Somebody is going to die,” Mandisa quotes the traditional healer saying.
