Kelly Khumalo’s sister Zandie reacts to Advocate Teffo withdrawing from Senzo Meyiwa murder trial

Mzansi singer, Kelly Khumalo’s sister Zandile “Zandie” Gumede has weighed in on Advocate Malesela Teffo stepping down as the legal representative of four of the five men accused of killing soccer star Senzo Meyiwa – via an Instagram post on Wednesday 13 July.

Kelly Khumalo’s sister Zandie Gumede weighed in on Advocate Malesela Teffo stepping down as the legal representative of four of the five men accused of killing Senzo Meyiwa. Senzo is Kelly’s “baby daddy” and ex-boyfriend. He was believed to have been killed in a botched robbery at Kelly’s mom’s home in Vosloorus, Gauteng on 26 October 2014.

Zandie was one of the six people in the house that night. In a rare post, Zandie shared her opinion on Advocate Teffo stepping down as the legal representative of four of the five accused.

“It looks like one is never gonna get their day in court. (Because) people entrusted with this case have turned into a circus. So I might as well say this here and now,” she wrote.
She went on to say that it pains her that the case of Senzo’s death will not be resolved anytime soon. This is because the Meyiwa family will not receive justice and her family will continue to live with a “dark cloud” over them. So, she feels this has affected both families.

“It really pains me that this case doesn’t look like it will be solved anytime soon. Because South African’s believe opportunists and populists like this one. It pains me because it means the Meyiwa family will never get justice. And it pains me because it means my family will forever live under this dark cloud,” she continued.

She then went on to say that Advocate Teffo claimed he had proof that Kelly shot Senzo but he has now withdrawn. So, Zandie called this a “desperate desire” to find her family guilty.

“This one claimed he had a witness? He claimed he had proof that Kelly pulled the trigger and now he withdraws. He has had his 2 minutes of fame. This desperate desire to find the Khumalo’s [sic] guilty will stand in the way of justice. This tunnel view approach that the society is applying to this case is what is obstructing justice from being served,” she added.

Advocate Teffo revealed that he stepped down from the case because he felt that he was being harassed by the state and the court.

“I would like to inform the honourable court that I will no longer be able to proceed based on the harassment that I am receiving from the State and the court,” he told the court.

“What is happening here is heartbreaking. The justice system in this country is becoming a circus. My clients are being prosecuted for sins they never committed. I cannot be part of this. Each time I raise an issue for accused 1 – 4 Judge Maumela cannot take a decision. But let it be another one who raises something he is able to take a decision,” he continued.
