After waiting for the judge for hours, Zinhle Mabena and her husband Robert Ngwenya finally appeared in court on Thursday, 25 February.

This came after Ngwenya’s legal team applied for an urgent application to have a warrant of arrest and interim protection order against him set aside in the Pretoria Domestic Violence Court in Tshwane.

The court ruled in his favour, disappointing his estranged wife, Mabena, who was hoping for his arrest. A warrant of arrest was earlier issued against him for allegedly violating the protection order the Isibaya star obtained against him.

Shani van Niekerk, one of Ngwenya’s attorneys, said the interim protection order was amended and the main application for the final order was postponed.

“The main reason we came to court today was for him not to be arrested, and that was successful,” she said.

Van Niekerk said her client was very happy with the outcome.

“Justice was served and this was what was supposed to happen. The matter is not completely over and we think there’s still a long road ahead of us but for now, it’s done,” she said.

Joshua Lazarus, Mabena’s lawyer, said she was disappointed.

“The wheels of justice turn slowly, but they will turn. It’s true that he was not arrested, but certain provisions of the interim protection order still stand,” he said.

The case was postponed to 28 April for the matter to be finalized.
