Its over for Somizi – New judge for Idols SA announced
Idols SA has decided on the fate of media personality Somizi Mhlongo after the talent competition put him on ice.
The flamboyant media personality will not be returning to the show as a judge following the explosive allegations he was abusive towards his estranged husband Mohale Motaung.
The popular singing competition that has shaped the careers of many musicians such as the likes of Khaya Mthethwa and Amanda Black, revealed that they will be having a guest judge every week.
“Idols SA fans should brace themselves for an exciting line-up of celebrities, who are set to add some pizzazz when they join Unathi Nkayi and Randall Abrahams as guest judges every week,” they revealed.
According Mzansi Magic, the guest judges will be announced weekly via the channel’s social media platforms.
“Their new voices are certainly going to add a new flavour to the feedback given to the Idols SA season 17 hopefuls,” they said.
This shocking news follows directly after Mzansi Magic and Somizi reached a mutual agreement that he should take some time off to focus on his personal life after Mohale accused him of abuse.
But Somizi through a lengthy statement poured cold on the claims of abuse, but admitted that their relationship has had its ups and down.
“But I have never been physically or knowingly emotionally abusive towards my estranged husband. I vehemently deny the allegations of criminal acts towards him and would like to clear my name of that defamation,” he said.
Somizi was also put on ice by Metro FM, where he is a presenter. In the same statement where he refuted the abuse claims, he also admitted the damning allegations have had a big reputational damage and were affecting his work and ability to make money.
