Huge blow for the Viewers as Uzalo goes off air
Mzansi’s most-watched soapie Uzalo will be taking a production break as of May 11, due to the production schedule being disrupted due to the national lockdown.
The national lockdown forced production houses in Mzansi to put their scripts and cameras down following the president’s orders for a national lockdown to assist with fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.
Following relaxed lockdown regulations being announced and South Africa moving to level 4 lockdown, Uzalo cast and crew were able to return to set on May.
Stained Glass TV, which produces Uzalo, however, has shared that as of Monday, 11 May 2020 Uzalo will be off the air.
“Production was profoundly impacted by this as it directly resulted in the show not having enough material to flight,” read the statement.
“It is important to us to ensure we deliver content that adheres to the COVID-19 protocols, safeguarding our active cast, crew, and the greater community.”
Since returning back to set Uzalo has implemented several new set protocols and measures that will ensure the health and safety of the cast and crew during production.
Uzalo during the lockdown had previously attempted to get back to work before the lockdown regulations were changed but were halted in their footsteps, despite being granted a permit by the Company and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC).
