Huge blow for fans as Black Motion splits

Mzansi music group, the duo Black Motion is reported to have split up after close to a decade of making hit songs together.

Black Motion which consists of Damanola Thabo “Smol” Mabogwane and Robert Bongani “Murdah” Mahosana, was alleged to have split on Friday.

News of the pair’s split was announced by social media celebrity and gossip blogger Musa Khawula. Musa claimed that following the split, Black Motion cancelled a show that was scheduled for New York in the United States.

Writing on social media, Musa said:
Black Motion have split. The duo recently cancelled a show in New York and at another gig Thabo was booked alone without Bongani Mohasana.

Khawula followed this up by saying Mohasana had rebranded and is now performing solo.

Bongani Mohasana has rebranded and also now performs alone as Mörda after his Black Motion split with Thabo.

The duo from Soshanguve, Tshwane, South Africa have produced 6 studio albums and over 40 singles over the past decade.

In 2016, the duo signed a global licensing deal with Sony Music Entertainment Africa which springboarded the distribution of their fourth studio album: “Ya Badimo”, a tribute to their ancestors, and a continuation of their storytelling through music.

In 2017, the Ya Badimo album and as well as their single Imali were both certified platinum by Sony Music Entertainment Africa.

At the 2019 South African Music Awards, the duo won both Best Dance Album for Moya Wa Taola, and Duo or Group of the Year. At the SAMA, Black Motion was recognized for its contribution to African music alongside its fellow modern-day giants including Sho Madjozi and Black Coffee.
