How Senzo Meyiwa fell into Kelly Khumalo’s arms
The Pretoria High Court has heard how singer Kelly Khumalo will testify that Senzo Meyiwa fell into her arms after being shot in a robbery.
Meyiwa’s close friend Mthokozisi Thwala has been testifying in the trial against five men accused of the soccer star’s murder.
The Pirates and Bafana Bafana captain was shot at Khumalo’s Vosloorus home in October 2014. Lawyer for both accused three and four completed their cross-examination on Thursday, and Advocate Zandile Mshololo for the fifth accused will begin hers on Friday.
Lawyer for the third accused Advocate Zithulele Nxumalo drew clear contradictions between Mthokozisi Thwala’s testimony and Kelly Khumalo’s statement.
Like how Khumalo said Senzo Meyiwa, Tumelo Madlala, and Mthokozisi Thwala were all fighting the second intruder, while Thwala disputes this, saying Meyiwa, Madlala and two others who were in the house were fighting the first armed intruder.
Nxumalo then read a portion of Khumalo’s statement on what happened next.

“I then saw Senzo running towards me, I grabbed him but could see that he was weak – he fell into my arms and I saw a spot of blood on his back, and I turned him over and I saw a lot of blood on his chest. He fell on the couch and I held him while screaming for help.”
This contradicts Thwala’s version, because according to Khumalo, the shooting happened in the sitting room and not the kitchen as he has maintained.
