South African polygamist, Musa Mseleku has opened up about how much he spends on his wives’ individual households.

He was a recent guest on Old Mutual’s Head of Financial Education with host John Manyike. In the episode, he spoke about his finances and how he provides for his four wives.

He revealed to the host that he spends roughly R30 000 on groceries.

“Look at it like this, the basics like oil and things like that come up to around R4 500. Then you add cleaning materials then you get up to R 6 000,” he said.

“I may be underestimating, per household. Then you multiply for each household, which gets you to the R30 000 range. If they don’t save the money they make, they will have a crisis,” he continued. “Let me put it like this, if you have a child who has an opportunity to make money while you’re still alive, that child must save their money.”

Musa and his 5th wife Thobile recently wed. “I’d describe it as a top-notch wedding. We truly enjoyed ourselves with African drinks and food. They kept it under wraps because it wasn’t just a wedding, but they were also filming the next season of Uthando Nesthembu, which is set to premiere before the end of this year,” said a source to Daily Sun.

Musa has been very vocal about getting a 5th wife but some of his current wives have been against it.

In an interview with TshisaLIVE he said he needs to get their collective agreement so he can do as he pleases, which is to marry a 5th woman.

“I have called a number of meetings both as a collective and individually, I’ve expressed the feeling that the request has been rejected. My plan is to keep presenting the same thing in a different way or persuade, up until I get a collective agreement in a sense that everyone is happy about it because I wouldn’t want anyone to leave me because of that decision,” he told the publication.

“I’m asking my wives to allow me to take a fifth wife, it’s no longer a question to me. I’m just waiting for them to say yes or no. And I’m doing it the modern way. If it was before, I’d be telling them that I’m taking,” he said.

He continued “The way it’s supposed to be done, is for me to engage with the first wife and tell her I intend to take a fifth wife and she would communicate with the other wives but in the modern times, it does not work that way because all the wives have to be treated equally.”

Musa Mseleku’s fifth wife MaCele set an ultimatum for Musa, “I gave Musa a timeframe to marry as many wives as possible but he had to do this before our 20th anniversary,” MaCele told Daily Sun.
