Good news for Durban Gen viewers

Good news for the viewers of the popular eTV’s medical drama series Durban Gen, they will be thrilled to learn that the show has been renewed for the second season- season 2B.

Season one ended on a dramatic note on Friday evening, but viewers are in for a treat in season two.

The new season premiered and in the opening scene Mbali Mthewa played by Nelisiwe Sibiya, opens the scene at her graduation ceremony where she becomes a fully-fledged sangoma.

Taking to her Instagram account, the actress said shooting the new scenes as a sangoma was challenging but, she’s excited about the new journey.

“I am so excited about this new journey and shift I took as an actress. The opportunity to portray different characters ❤️🙏🏾 I won’t lie this story line is so close to my heart and it’s been so hard! Haweh mah! Shooting these scenes were the pits! So challenging! Overwhelming and powerful. I can’t wait for you guys to see this journey I took.

The contrast and conflict between traditional vs western medicine will become a big factor as the story evolves.

“One thing is sure- love, relationships and cheating scandals will continue to unfold. Dr Thabo [Meshack Mavuso] and Dr Zondo [Fanele Ntuli] are now married. Dr Jack and Nurse Calvin have taken the next steps in their relationship and are now engaged. And, Matron Phumeza and Sibiya finally have children of their own,” said the channel in a statement.

In May, Stained Glass, the production company behind the show released a statement confirming that the show has been canned.

According to a statement from the channel, Durban Gen has been canceled as part of a business strategy which includes the ongoing review of the on-air life-cycle of all our shows.

“The decision to decommission the daily drama is part of a business strategy which includes the on-going review of the on-air life-cycle of all our shows. e.tv continues to look forward to fulfilling its mandate of producing exceptional and relevant local content, and the production has successfully achieved its part of the obligation throughout the past 2 years. Durban Gen first aired in October 2020,” read the statement.
