Former Golden Arrows coach Steve Komphela has confirmed that he will join Mamelodi Sundowns’ technical team following his resignation at the KwaZulu Natal outfit.

The 53 year-old Komphela handed in his resignation letter on Sunday, after about 20 months in the job at Abafana Bes’Thende.

The former Kaizer Chiefs coach is on his way to Chloorkop to join Sundowns as assistant coach to newly appointed joint coaches Manqoba Mnqithi and Rhulani Mokwena.

This as Sundowns looks to build a strong technical team that will continue to bring the success the club had been used to under former coach Pitso Mosimane.

Mosimane left Sundowns after nearly eight years to join Egyptian giants Al Ahly in a shocking move a few weeks ago.

In a statement, Komphela confirmed that he has been offered an “exciting opportunity” to join Sundowns.

“I have been give an exciting opportunity to join Mamelodi Sundowns as senior coach and to work with its joint head coaches, Manqoba Mnqithi and Rhulani Mokwena,” read Komphela’s statement.

“I look forward to this exciting challenge and hope to contribute to the growth and success of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa and on the African continent.”
