Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade prove that couples who sweat together, stay together.
Having a workout buddy yields many benefits. You feel more motivated to get to the gym, determined to go all out, and emotionally supported as you challenge yourself to reach and exceed your goals.
That person can help you stay on track and be your rock throughout your fitness journey. Typically we choose a like-minded friend or a colleague with a similar schedule to be that person for us. But, if you’re lucky, your workout buddy might just be your significant other.
Sharing fitness with your guy or girl can produce so many benefits for your relationship.
A shared goal of bettering yourself and growing alongside one another can do wonders for your personal development, and make you and your special someone feel more connected and united than ever before. We often see stories go viral where a couple are bonded in their weight-loss goals, and soar to incredible heights together. Other pairs bond over sweat sessions and get to know each other in more meaningful ways.
Britney Spears and Sam Asghari are known for their Instagram dancing videos, whereas Ciara and Russell Wilson run drills together. Alex Rodriguez and Jennifer Lopez always get their workouts in together, and Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake love their fun hotel workouts. But the couple I’m most in awe of right now who sets a prime example is Gabrielle Union and Dwayne Wade. The fit and fun pair are each other’s biggest cheerleaders as they sweat it out, and they frequently take to Instagram to walk fans through their regimens.
The actress and the athlete go all out on their “push days” in the gym – and it definitely helps having your person by your side when you’re giving your workout your all! Their routine consists of the Stairmaster, followed by a circuit focusing on the glutes, thighs, calves, and seated leg presses.
Using the Stairmaster requires maximum exertion if done correctly, because you’re various muscles throughout the short movements, and exercises your glutes, quads and calves. It also increases your heart rate and metabolism, and is a great cardio option. Gabrielle and Dwayne also do cable machine pushes,
single-leg balances, and they use the Core-Tex balance trainer for a full-body workout. This specialized machine mimics planks, but takes the movement to a whole new level.
Aside from their hard-hitting workouts, the Bad Boys II star and the NBA player also take care of their bodies by prioritizing healthy habits. “I started drinking a gallon of water a day in my mid-thirties and some people have called me a vampire or that I’m using embalming fluid, or other crazy things,” Gabrielle previously told Fitness magazine. “But honestly, my hair, skin, and nails all changed once I started drinking a gallon of water a day.”
She also told Women’s Health that she loves sweat sessions with her hubby: “Training together, it’s been a cool thing that doesn’t feel like, ‘Let’s go talk about our feelings.’ It’s like, I’m a cool mom!”
