Fans left speechless after discovering Lady Zamar and Prophet Bushiri share same nationality
Fans on social media were recently shocked to learn that Lady Zamar is actually Malawian. Yamikani Janet Banda, known professionally as Lady Zamar is a South African singer and songwriter born in 1987 to a Malawian father and a South African mother and was raised in Mamelodi.
Lady Zamar has won the hearts of many South African and international fans with her certifiably platinum songs such as Charlotte and has walked away with SAMA Awards and DSTV Mzansi Viewers Choice Awards.
Like many South African women, Zamar was distraught after learning that her case won’t be going to trial. The musician accused her ex-boyfriend; Sjava of raping her while they were doing a show in Thohoyandou; Limpopo three years ago.
The Sjava and Lady Zamar’s rape case was thrown out two weeks ago as the court ruled that there was no evidence to pin the award-winning musician to rape. Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed that the case against Sjava was declined for prosecution two weeks ago.
The case is officially dismissed and Lady Zamar has been trending on social media since the news broke yesterday. Fans of Sjava are requesting that Lady Zamar be sued for defamation of character and damages to his career. Because of the pending rape case; Sjava lost out on two nominations, his shows got cancelled and he lost TV acting gigs because of the rape charges.
While this outcome is great news for Sjava and his fans, it’s also a step back for rape victims and #GBV victims in South Africa. Women who are raped will need to have concrete evidence before accusing anyone or speaking out about their ordeal.
Fans of Sjava also want to know if Zamar will be jailed for “falsely accusing” the musician as it’s a case of ‘he said’ and ‘she said’ for now.
