Durban General Finally Hits Our TV Screens

eTV’s new highly anticipated drama series Durban General finally hit the small screens last night and the first episode had many on the edge of their collective seats.

According to the channel the brainchild of multi-award-winning production house Stained Glass T.V., Durban Gen, depicts a powerful partnership between storytellers.

In statement Stained Glass Managing Director Pepsi Pokane recently expressed his excitement about the first medical drama to be shot in Durban, “It is an honour to be warmly welcomed into the eFamily. The entire team, production, cast, and crew are incredibly excited to be working on the first-ever medical drama that will be set in KwaZulu-Natal. Durban Gen is a big win for Stained Glass T.V., for the KZN Province and for the City of eThekwini. We believe that audiences will connect with the show’s riveting storylines, exciting characters, and incredible cast.

The first episode premiered last night and viewers were introduced to familiar faces such as Mxolisi “Zulu Boy” Majozi, playing fun and enthusiastic paramedic MacGyver, and Bhekisizwe Mahlawe as the confident and charismatic male Nurse, Calvin Gumede.

Lihle Dhlomo is taking on the character of Dr. Precious Dlamini, an obstetrician-gynaecologist married to Head of Surgery and womanizer Dr.Thabo Dlamini, played by Meshack Mavuso.

eTV stated, “On arrival at Durban General Hospital, Mbali assists in a precarious surgery that goes horribly wrong, resulting in the death of an MEC. The incident plummets the hospital, Mbali, and Dr. Lindelani Zulu, into the middle of an investigation that threatens to derail her career before it has even begun. Meanwhile, her proximity to Dr. Zulu, the resulting intimacy, and their palpable chemistry threaten to break everything Mbali has built back home with Sbusiso.”

A number of Kwazulu-Natal productions have raising the province’s flag high following the success of Uzalo and Imbewu: The Seed, and new faces have been introducing new faces eTV stated.

“KZN has progressively become the quintessential pulse of local productions, not only from a storyline perspective but for its ability to provide fertile soil from which to grow and build new talent,” says Helga Palmer, e.tv Head of Local Productions.

“We have a plethora of new faces joining Durban Gen and the entertainment industry as a whole, and you will be able to see all the new faces as we move towards the premiere of the show.
