Dr. Dre responds to wife’s divorce filing and reveals prenup
Dr Dre has responded to wife Nicole Young’s petition for divorce, revealing the couple does have a prenuptial agreement in place that could prevent her from getting half of his $800million fortune.
Young, 50, filed for divorce last month, citing irreconcilable differences and seeking spousal support and division of their property, which is reported to be worth $60million.
The rapper, 55, filed his response in court on Wednesday, agreeing to pay spousal support, but said the division of assets should be determined by their prenuptial agreement, TMZ reported.
Earlier reports stated the pair did not have a prenup as Young did not mention the agreement in her filing. Dre is being represented by high-powered celebrity divorce lawyer, Laura Wasser, who filed on his behalf.
His paperwork also noted the date of separation as March 27, weeks after the coronavirus lockdown began.
It also came a month after Dre gave an interview in February discussing his wife’s plans for his birthday celebration.
Dre, who is said to be worth an estimated $800million, rose to prominence as the founder of Death Row Records in the 1990s before launching his hugely lucrative Beats Electronics brand in 2006.
The rapper, who is also the founder and CEO of Aftermath Entertainment, married Nicole on May 25, 1996. She was formerly married to NBA player Sedale Threatt.
Young, who is a lawyer herself, is being represented by celebrity attorney Samantha Spector in the divorce.
The pair share two adult children together, daughter Truly Young, 19, and son Truice Young, 23.
