Mzansi newlyweds DJ Zinhle and her baby daddy Murdah Bongz have been documenting their love story on her reality show DJ Zinhle: The Unexpected.
The couple recently revealed that they are traditionally married and the lobola negotiations took place about 6 months ago.
Now, their next mission is to build their home together. On the latest episode of the BET series now in its second season, Zinhle revealed that they are currently building their own home.
This mission is one that they both have made slight sacrifices for including cutting down on costs so they can speed up the process. This is important for Zinhle who says she does not want to end up taking out a loan from the bank.
“Bongani and I have a goal, we want to build a house and for us to build a house we understand how much work it is going to take,” she said. “Let’s make sure this house is fully paid for by the time we are done. I don’t want to take any loans. So, you’re splurging on clothes…” she continued waiting for Murdah to add to her statement.
For Murdah, he does not want to look at his neighbour’s underwear any longer. “I also can’t wait for the house, I’m tired of seeing my neighbours underwear.”
Zinhle noted how determined Murdah is when it comes to finishing the house. She even mentioned how he has cut down on traveling costs to save money.
“He’s so determined for this house that he’s not even traveling with the team, he is traveling alone. So that he can save money,” she said speaking to the camera.
DJ Zinhle already has a beautiful house in Fourways that she had built from scratch. With the help from her friend Oskido, who encouraged her to have her own home, she was able to build a beautiful home for her and her kids. In his YouTube series, Zinhle spoke about how Oskido helped her to finish off the home and the power of thrift shopping.
Zinhle’s home features four bedrooms – one with crown moulding, four bathrooms, a playroom for Kairo, a main lounge with a “badass” fire place, a TV room, a kitchen, a scullery, a pyjama lounge and some fancy light switches from what she called “the tattoo range.”
“I learned that you need to get as many quotes possible for everything and also referrals are good cause when someone has built a house before and they know which suppliers are good it’s easier to do things that way instead of working with people you have never worked with.
“I love going to thrift stores to buy furniture and repurpose it and make it new. My coffee table in the lounge I paid only R3000 for it but I’m sure now the market value for it is maybe R60 000 or R70 000,” she said.
