DJ Tira’s warning to gospel artists
Popular South African DJ and record producer, DJ Tira has warned other music genres not to underestimate Gqom musicians when it comes to playing soccer.
Since Mzansi celebrities began participating in soccer tournaments, Gqom, known for its stellar stage performances, has yet to win a tournament.

This has led many to believe they’re not skilled at soccer.
On the soccer pitch, the Maskandi team won the 2022 tournament, and the gospel team clinched the 2023 title.
The most humiliating defeat for the Gqom team, led by DJ Tira, was a 3-0 loss to the gospel team, led by Dumi Mkokstad, in their first game.
The gospel team then went on to defeat the Maskandi team in the final. This year, the draw remains unchanged.
The maskandi team, led by Khuzani Mpungose, will face the hip-hop team led by Big Zulu in the first game, while the gqom team will again challenge the gospel team.
The winners of each game will then compete in the final. The Celebrity Soccer games are set to take place at Tsakane Stadium in Tsakane, Ekurhuleni on Sunday, 21 July.
DJ Tira expressed confidence, stating: “This year we are back, and we will surprise the other genres because they underestimate us. We will start by taking revenge, defeating the gospel team 3-0, and we aim to face hip-hop in the final and win.”

He said has strengthened his team this year by adding new players such as Goldmax and NaakMusiQ.
“NaakMusiQ will give the gospel team a headache and handle the gospel team player who troubled us last year,” said Tira.
Gospel team leader Dumi Mkokstad attributed their success to having an extra player.
“As a gospel team, we have the invisible Jesus Christ as number 12 on our team,” he said.
