Deokaran murder case postponed to 18 November

The case against six men charged with the murder of health whistleblower Babita Deokaran has been postponed to 18 November.

She was gunned down outside her home in 2021. The matter was initially postponed, as the defence team had apparently not been paid. The accused now have new legal representatives who need to familiarise themselves with the case.

A forensic report was also still outstanding at the time. Deokaran was a high-ranking official in Gauteng Health’s Financial unit.

She was investigating a number of dodgy deals. The accused face charges of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to murder and illegal possession of firearms.
