Calls for Somizi to pay damages for Bahumi
Social media believe actress Palesa Madisakwane, who shares 26-year-old Bahumi with media personality Somizi Mhlongo, is correct in her decision on her daughter’s surname.
The fifth season of Living the Dream with Somizi set tongues wagging on Twitter. Apart from Somizi sharing the details of his divorce, his “baby mama” Palesa Madisakwane revealed that he did not pay damages for their daughter Bahumi.
“He decided to go pay lobola and have multiple weddings without paying damages for my child. So, I just stood back and observed,” she said.
Bahumi sat down with her mom for a chat about changing her surname on the latest episode of the series. Palesa said that Bahumi was given the Mhlongo surname because things were not done correctly, culturally.
“If she wants to change her surname to Mhlongo, she is an Mhlongo at the end of the day. There is nothing I can do, but I am just worried (about) what my dad will say. My father always says that there are steps that need to be taken,” said Palesa.
“It’s not about money, it’s just about certain things to be corrected so that we can give her our blessings,” she continued.
Palesa told Bahumi that the correct steps first need to be taken before she changes her surname. She also said that her ancestors, on her dad’s side do not know her because she was not introduced to her.
Here are some of the thoughts online:
Bahumi's mother is right. The father's side of the family has no right over the child if the damages haven't been paid and if the paternal side hasn't even welcomed the child, even ancestors don't recognize the the child. Ngwana wa hlaolwa ka dikgomo. #LTDWSOMIZI

Bahumi shouldn’t disregard her ancestors when it comes to changing her surname because they play a huge role in how your life can unfold. #LTDWSOMIZI

I’ve never heard of Bahumi’s take on the changing of surnames. Doesn’t the father have to pay damages for you to be introduced to his ancestors? #LTDWSOMIZI

Palesa is right.. things must be done the right way…Bahumi has to be introduced properly to the Mhlongo ancestors…. #LTDWSOMIZI
