Bongile Mantsai to star in SABC new drama series

SABC 1 is introducing a new drama series, titled Identity and starring actors such as Bongile Mantsai, Asanda Hanabe, Ayanda Bandla and Zizi Peteni.

The series, that premieres at 7.30pm on Sunday, 8 May, follows Melusi Sikhakhane (played by Bongile) – the most celebrated police officer who becomes the most wanted criminal in South Africa.

Identity is shot in Umlazi, KZN, and Joburg.

Announcing the show, the channel said: “Linked to him are the women in his life – his loving wife of 20 years Gugulethu Mboma, and ambitious side chick Phumzile. Ayanda plays Gugulethu while Asanda plays Phumzile.”

The channel continued: “When Melusi’s life is turned upside-down in the underground world, viewers meet Panyaza, a ruthless serial businessman who will stop at nothing to grow his wealth and get what he wants. He belongs to an international syndicate that has its eyes on taking over cities in SA, and has prioritised Joburg as its first project.”

The series also features Sandile King as Bonga, Graeme Mkhalimi as What-What and Otto Nobela as Goofy.
