ANOTHER TOP ACTOR LEAVES DURBAN GEN?

e.TV’s medical drama series, Durban Gen, is less than a year old but it has been plagued with scandal after scandal after scandal.

The telenovela, which is set in Durban, Kwa-Zulu Natal, hence it’s name, airs on the free-to-air channel every Monday to Friday at 6:30PM. Rumours have been rife that top actor Duduzile Ngcobo, who plays the role of Dr Qwabe, has left the show.

After, on the soapie, she left for a trip to work in another country – as per the storyline – fans thought that that was her exit from Durban Gen. This was made worse by the fact that she was no longer appearing on recent scenes. However, the show’s spokeswoman Nomfundo Zondi, rubbished these claims. She explained that Duduzile’s disappearance was actually part of her storyline.

“The rumours are not true. Duduzile hasn’t left the show. She’s still part of the show and busy shooting upcoming episodes,” she said.

Six months ago, ZAlebs reported that the show might be the next to be sent back to the drawing board to change its storyline after a decline in the show’s viewership figures.

According to entertainment commentator Phil Mphela, in December the medical drama series had 1.75 million viewers after it peaked at 2 Million viewers in November. The decline in 300k viewers raised eyebrows, and weighing in their two cents, viewers of the show commented and said the show is lacking when it comes to the medical aspect of the storyline.

When that blew over, we learnt that talented actor Thulane Shange was reportedly fired from the show. After allegedly getting fired from Uzalo, Thulane scored an acting gig on the popular Etv show called Durban Gen as Doctor Mandla Ngcobo. Not only that, but the scoop was that Durban Gen would be letting go of three cast members at the same time. The telenovela let go of Lihle Dhlomo who played the role of Doctor Precious Dlamini, Sifiso Sibiya who played Bab’ Gumede and Thulane Shange.

Last month, viewers had to bid farewell to yet another popular character on e.tv’s medical series. This after a moving episode that saw the death of MaCele, played by Monica Thuli Zulu. On the show, MaCele succumbed to a heart attack after her husband told her that he has used up all their family savings.

Meanwhile, a few weeks prior to that viewers also had to say goodbye to, Dr. Ndabezinhle Luthili played by Lerato Nxumalo.
Speaking about her role on Instagram, Lerato said she will always remember the human qualities of Dr, Luthuli.

She wrote: “Although I’m leaving I’ll never forget the human qualities Ndabezinhle has taught me, that it’s okay to be vulnerable, kind, compassionate, and flawed. To my colleagues thank you for being crazy, yall made every day on set so much fun. I’m sorry for bullying yall into making Tiktoks with me.”

She thanked the show for giving her an opportunity and her colleagues and friends for the journey.
