AKA shows love to Zimbabweans – Blasts Africans for supporting BLM in US whilst ignoring Zimbabwe

Multi-award-winning South African musician, AKA, has shown love and solidarity with Zimbabweans at a time when the country is going through economic and political turmoil. The rapper was so appalled by the situation in the country which has seen journalists and activists arrested and in some cases abducted in the last few weeks.

The rapper, real name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, took to social media to highlight the plight of Zimbabweans to speak out against brutality, repression and injustice in the country.

Writing on Twitter, AKA said,

I would say, “I’m praying for you” … but that’s a bit over done, I’d rather just say, you’re on my mind and I hope you will be victorious soon. ✊🏽 Flag of Zimbabwe

The ‘Fela In Versace’ hitmaker also called on Africans to show the same love and solidarity to Zimbabweans as they showed to the Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement in America following the painful death of George Floyd at the hands of police officers. Said AKA,

Imagine your fellow Africans too busy focused on #BLM happening 15 000 kms away to care about those very same black lives NEXT DOOR. Black is King my ass. Stay Strong ZIMBABWE…

Let’s spread awareness about what’s going on In Zimbabwe Flag of Zimbabwe … because ultimately the people need all the help they can get.

When social media users chided Zimbabwean celebrities and artists for not speaking out against the abuses in their own country, AKA opined that perhaps, the local celebrities are scared of the situation as well.

Maybe they are scared too. It’s easy to say they should say something, but they are citizens just like you.

AKA said that if he was in the shoes of local celebrities, he would also be scared for his life because he could get ” arrested, tortured or even killed”.

You can be arrested, tortured or even killed at this point for doing that. I don’t know what I would do in that position. I’d be so scared for my family.
