AKA and Tibz murder case set to return to court

The murder case of slain rapper Kiernan “AKA” Forbes and celebrity chef, Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane, returns to court on Thursday.

This, after the case was adjourned two months ago, after the five men accused in the matter were denied bail.

Forbes and Motsoane were shot and killed outside a famous restaurant on Florida Road in Durban in February 2023.

Police later revealed that Forbes was the target in the hit.

During the previous proceedings in the high-profile murder case, Magistrate Vincent Hlatshwayo referred to the State’s evidence before making a ruling in the application for bail.

He pointed to the accused’s failure to dispute cellphone linkages before the killing of Forbes and Motsoane.

He also told the court that the accused had an opportunity to prove that it was in the interest of justice for them to be granted bail but did not.

Hlatshwayo then ruled that based on all the evidence presented in court, the group had a case to answer to.

“In the circumstances, it is the finding of this court that there is a case for the applicants to answer. It is the finding of this court that it would be reckless and irresponsible to allow the applicants on bail.”

Two other accused suspects in the matter are yet to be extradited from Eswatini.
