THULISILE Phongolo has scored herself a new role.

The actress, best known for playing Namhla Diale in Generations: The Legacy, has joined the cast of Rockville, where she will be playing a character called Buhle.

Thuli described Buhle as a go-getter.
“She is such a layered character and a lot of people will relate to her. She shows what happens when you make decisions that are out of character and how you were raised,” she said.

“Playing her has been amazing and I like that she’s a risk-taker.

“She’s going through a journey that will be interesting for the viewers.

“It’s filled with unexpected twists and turns. In short, I can say her storyline is juicy.

“On her journey, she will realise not everyone is what you think they are and you must take everything with a pinch of salt.”

Thuli said although she enjoyed breathing life into Buhle, the role came with a set of challenges.

“She really challenged me to dig deep within myself and into my Zulu heritage. She’s from KZN and speaks proper isiZulu and I had to ensure I nailed it,” she said.

“Buhle is a game-changer. People are going to love and appreciate that about her as well as the fire she brings into the story,” she said.

Thuli, as her fans fondly call her, said she hoped she wouldn’t drop the ball.

“A lot of people have come to the show and set the bar high through their performances. I hope to keep the torch burning.”

Her journey in the industry had filled with many lessons.

“I’m grateful for everything. From hereon I can only go upward,” she said.

Thuli Phongolo come under fire on social media after her post about maids rubbed people the wrong way and backfired against her.

The actress played the role of Namhla Diale, the daughter of Lucy Diale (Manaka Ranaka) on the soap opera Generations: The Legacy between 2014 and 2018. She left the show when her character was written off in 2018.

The actress’s post about how her maid had stayed up till well after midnight to help her undress did not come well with most people. Writing on her Instagram stories, Thuli Phongolo wrote,

“Guys, not my helper waiting for me till 00:28 to help me with my dress and my PJs laid out for me! I appreciate her so much, I can’t!!!!”

Unsurprisingly, the post caused mixed reactions among social media users with some saying that if Thuli really wants to appreciate her maid and domestic help, she should ensure that she works reasonable hours. Others accused the actress of being insensitive by actually posting this on social media.
