5 things you need to know about Khanyi Mbau’s 15-year-old daughter, Khanukani
Mzansi actress Khanyi Mbau set tongues wagging when she opened up about her parenting relationship with her daughter Khanukani, affectionately known as Khanz – on the first episode of Young, Famous & African which premiered on 18 March.
Khanyi Mbau said she told her daughter she could lose her v1rginity tomorrow if she wanted to – on the first episode of Netflix’s Young, Famous & African. This did not sit well with her co-stars Andile Ncube and Annie Macaulay-Idibia.
“We allow Khanz to be herself, if she wants to try stuff, I mean anything… we let her try it. Cause we want to see who this person is,” she said.
“But then where do you draw the line? What happens when she’s curious about s.e.x at 15?” asks Andile.
“V1rginity can be lost or it can be stolen. So lost is when you are ready and its a boy you think you are going to marry, you give it away. You love this guy, you are 15, you think you are going to marry him… you give it away,” Khanyi continued.
So, what do we know about Khanz?
- Khanz’s father is Mandla Mthembu
Khanz parents are of course, Khanyi Mbau and public figure Mandla Mthembu. Khanyi was just 21 years old at the time.
- She is 15 years old
Khanz is only 15 years old.
- Khanz was rumoured to be pregnant
A video by Khanyi’s half-brother Lasizwe Dambuza sparked rumours that Khanz was pregnant – because of her weight gain, but Khanyi poured cold water on those rumours.
“Hate me all you want but Khanukani is a child. The fact that the first thought that comes to all your minds is that a child could be pregnant shows how sick of a society we have all become. No wonder rape, child abduction and abuse has become a norm and why stats are so high. Our children are in danger, the energies we adults put out are vile and disgusting. We show no faith in them and don’t respect children,” she said in defence of Khanz at the time.
- She lives on her own
Khanyi also revealed that Khanz lives alone in an apartment next to hers on an episode of Young, Famous & African. She said that she allows her daughter to be herself and live on her own. Andile and Annie had had strong opinions on this as well.
“She’s too young. This thing didn’t sit well with me. I didn’t like what I was hearing. She is still young, she might not be able to make the right decisions,” said Annie.
“Regardless of how you speak with her, she’s still 15,” she continued.
- Khanz is her mom’s mini-me
Looking through the photos of Khanz over the years, it is evident that she recently transformed into a mini version of her mom. Take a look…
